Vancouver Island Lodge
We have fished with Ryan at his Vancouver Island Lodge twice and we have already booked our third trip for this coming August. We've caught Kings and Silver Salmon, Prawns by the hundreds, and more Dungeness crab than we could eat. His beautiful lodge is waterfront on a very quiet and secluded bay. Don't miss a chance to spend some time here!Paul and Betty Zuelke

My group chartered 2 boats on a mid-October day and brought several (20+) Coho into the boat! The full experience from our pickup, to the boats, fishing gear, personable crew, right to our drop-off was excellent. Captain Steve was fantastic, plus the processing and packaging of our fish was above and beyond.I WILL be fishing with Vancouver Island Lodge again and would highly recommend them to anyone.

Vancouver Island Lodge was incredible. Ryan was fantastic, the fishing was excellent. Everyone on our trip felt that it was one of the very best vacations they'd ever had. We look forward to making it an annual excursion.

Trip was absolutely amazing. The lodge is incredible with a perfect view of the inlet and surrounding mountains. Boats are comfortable and clean and Ryan, the owner and our guide for 3 days went beyond what was expected. Filled our coolers with halibut which we wanted and enjoyed fresh crab on the dock at the end of the day. Could not have been any better.Jim, Toni and JohnThanks again Ryan and we will be back

You can’t find a better fishing lodge! We spent 7 weeks at the lodge in the early spring season. The location and the lodge are perfect with incredible views and a relaxed atmosphere & lots of nearby trails and sightseeing. The fishing is spot on, nice boats, excellent gear, friendly guides, and great results! We had plenty of action on the water with Halibut, Salmon, Crab, and Prawns. I would highly recommend this fantastic experience.

4 days/5 nights at Vancouver Island Lodge in summer of 2019. We were 3 couples with guys fishing and girls spending their days enjoying the scenery and many nearby tourist attractions. Our fishing was excellent due to the efforts of Ryan and Kyle. We limited out on Pink ( average 5 lbs) and Spring salmon (16 to 24 lbs) on 2 different days and caught a couple of halibut on another day. One halibut was over 50 lbs and 124 cm in length. On several days we spotted Humpback and Killer whales. One day the Killer whales surfaced near the boat, Ryan immediately shut down and we spent 30 minutes watching the whales surface on all 4 sides of the boat. Ryan's boats are as good as any - very large, wide and the set-up allows you to be inside out of the weather if needed. The Lodge is great with a huge kitchen, a comfy sitting area, large outdoor deck on 2nd floor that overlooks the cove, nice grass area and very well built docks with a modern cleaning station. Another building has full cleaning facilities, vac packing, large freezers, ice and approved airline containers for packing fish. Our wives really enjoyed the relaxing days with the beautiful scenery that the Lodge offers. The hiking trails also were a favorite with them. The Lodge and grounds are immaculate, rooms are very clean and modern. Ryan's pricing is very competitive. Highly recommend Vancouver Island Lodge for a fishing trip or just a place to relax and enjoy the Island. We will be returning next year. Thanks Ryan!!Read less

We spent 3 days at the lodge with our extended family and had a wonderful time! The lodge was lovely, very clean and well-appointed with everything we needed. We had young children with us and they enjoyed the large grassy area to play as well as the swimming beach. Our fishing trip was lots of fun and we feasted on crab and salmon. We spent 4 nights and 3 days at the lodge and had a memorable experience. We recommend the lodge wholeheartedly. We fished with both Kyle and Ryan (the lodge owner). They accommodated our schedule and fishing preferences. Kyle took us out two days and outworked absolutely every other boat out there (I watched closely). He turned slow fishing into rewarding productive days.Ryan targetes halibut early one morning. It was beautiful and calm in the straight and we caught a fat and just barely legal halibut and some black cod before returning to the lodge. Ryan suggested we rest so we could head out again that evening for a favorable tide. He was right. We had 90 minutes of near constant action of large chinook. What an unexpected treat to catch the sunrise and some halibut, nap and eat, and end the day with an absolute salmon thriller at sunset. One day we pulled up crab pots filled with Dungeness. Another we pulled shrimp pots (a first for me). We got to eat whatever we wanted back at the lodge and brought the rest home. The lodge is clean. The people relaxed. You can come and go as you please. Sooke is a charming town. Everyone seems to know Ryan which only enhanced the experience. The lodge is kid friendly and seems ideal for a large family or family reunion location. We returned home with well over 100 lbs of king, coho and halibut after processing. More importantly we’ll have warm memories of the experience, the water and the people for a lifetime.

My father and two nephews who are all seasoned fisherman recently stayed for 4 nights, 3 days fishing. My expectations were far exceeded based upon my initial research and the website. The lodge and grounds are immaculate and spacious. Ryan was up every morning making sure our meals and day were planned. The prepared food was spectacular and fridges stocked for our use. Our guide Steve was a fishing machine who obviously knew his trade and the waters as well as anyone. We limited out on species that were available and the fish were professionally taken care of and will be shipped back to us. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. I would make sure you research the federal fishing regulations before you go cause they change all year long.
