The Fishermen's Monument
The Fisherman's Monument is a 100 foot long bas relief carved on an exposed piece of in situ granite by William deGarthe, a painter and sculptor from Finland who immigrated to Canada in 1926. He spent many summers at Peggy’s Cove and moved there in 1955. Then in September 1977, aged 70 he began carving this memorial to the hard-working fishermen of Peggy's Cove. Sadly, deGarthe passed away in 1983 before he could complete the monument.

Ok i'll admit: there's not much more to say about this delightful artwork that Adam G hasn't said already - so check out his review for the Real Deal behind this one-of-a-kind outdoor museum of art that will be around well.. until the next ice age most likely!! Truly worth seeing.

Beautiful fishing village, a small walk down from Peggy’s Cove.
