Mayfield Figure Skating Club

Mayfield Figure Skating Club has been a great club for our daughter until she moved up to the Intermediate Level a few months ago. Our concerns were brought to the President of the Board of Directors and was met with a defensive attitude. The President does not adhere to Skate Canada and Safe Sport’s policies and excluded my daughter and her friend from an opportunity that was offered to other skaters at her level. The President even sent a separate e-mail to my daughter and her friend telling them to leave the rink after their skating assessment. The other Intermediate skaters were sent a different e-mail inviting them to remain at the rink. When we called the President to ask why this happened, she became defensive and hung up. As the President of the Board, it is her responsibility to provide responses to members and not to disrespect them that way. It is quite sad that an adult would feel it appropriate to deliberately exclude two skaters from the rest of the group. If you’re looking for a welcoming and inclusive club, perhaps look elsewhere.

Both my daughters started their lessons here. My youngest went on to ringette, but my oldest still figure skates here and she loves it.

The club is AMAZING! I joined the club several years ago when I was looking to get back into Figure Skating after being off the ice for almost 20 years. It is very difficult to find clubs that offer Adult programs other than Adult Can Skate. The coaching staff and board are very knowledgeable and welcoming. It's been so wonderful and fulfilling to be able to figure skate again and our adult group keeps growing which is exciting!

My family loves this Club! The coaches are great, the volunteer Board of Directors are very dedicated and the skaters and their families are all wonderful!

The instructors are great, very patient and helpful. They offer adult classes as well as kids, so there is no excuse to not learn to skate. I did as a grown man and it has become one of my favorite hobbies. They are geared towards both figure and power/ hockey style skating. Check them out, I highly recommend it

Unfortunately, there are extreme forms of nepotism and transparent favoritism toward young skaters. I was considering this club for my daughter, however the unprofessional conduct from leadership has made me reconsider our pending registration for the fall.

This club has become so toxic once you reach intermediate level and it’s really unfortunate as they “had” great coaches! The problem is with the extreme nepotism going on with the board of the directors (who all gave themselves 5 star reviews (shocker!!!). We’ve moved to another club and couldn’t be happier with the level of professionalism and no DRAMA!!!

We have been skating with Mayfield for year. Both my kids have been through PreCanSkate and CanSkate and my oldest is in the STAR program now! The coaches are amazing, the group activities the STAR skaters do for team building are so fun. My daughter loves this program!

Our family loves this club! My sister moved to this club 5 years ago and her improvements and progress are definitely noticeable. She was stuck in a different club in the year prior to transferring with minuscule progress because they kept teaching her the same thing. Mayfield FSC is very different as we have noticed how much the coaches keep track and make sure to work on the things their skaters are struggling with so they can improve and progress on to the next skill / level. They also host fun fundraisers and enjoyable events for the skaters to participate in outside of their skating lessons to hang out with their friends outside of the ice!

The instructors don’t create time for beginners to learn or practice. They expect every learner to know how to stand on ice even without prior experience. Not a good place for first time skaters. A lot of trainees injured themselves during the lessons, it was terrible.
