We decided to veer off our path to the Labrador ferry to stop in, and we did not regret it. At the door was Adrian, who was clearly a passionate and knowledgeable member of their staff who took 5 minutes to go through the site map with us and impart some of his knowledge, which was super helpful going forward at the site. The site itself was desolate, and rugged -- in a beautiful way, of course. Caribou roam the coastline and one came right up to the window while we were inside the interpretation centre! The history and significance of the site was fascinating and I spent time doing some follow-up reading in the days that followed.Highly recommend adding it to your list as you head up or down the peninsula.

The site at Port au Choix feels like sacred ground, certainly well-trod, long-lived-upon ground. To the uneducated it would appear at first a verdant uninhabited and remote place (and that is in summer, let's not think about winter). Yet walking the site and the interpretive signs (then the museum) one begins to see the truth: The First Peoples, nomads, who earned their living from the sea called this home for tens of thousands of years prior to the Norse and later the French and British that came here. The museum is excellent as well with its thousands of artifacts and the displays give one a sense of how the First Peoples lived here. Plan to spend a few hours to get the most from your visit.

Very informative displays. Staff warm and knowledgeable. Definitely should be on your itinerary to learn about the first people to inhabit the beautiful island. The Caribou are a bonus ..

Caribou all over by the lighthouse area and nearby shore just casually eating grass. You can go right up to them. Amazing!

Just a short jaunt off the main road, but feels miles away. From the time you enter...it's like a different world. The landscape changes and you too are transported with it to a different time. The history here is remarkable and what has been carefully uncovered and preserved needs to be shared with others. Added bonus a small herd of caribou also call this rugged landscape home.

Very informative, great guides in the interpretative center, unfortunately it rained heavily so we were unable to visit the dig sites.

A unbelievable experience to Park. The information center was also a archeological museum which explained the migrating indigenous seal hunters that followed the seals fromLabrador to Newfoundland. Also the lighthouse was very interesting . I recommend that stop and take the time to learn about our native forefathers !!!

Wish we’d have spent more time here. Very interesting history for this culturally significant area. Also there are very nice trails on the coastline and through the wooded area, we saw 3 caribou. Good chance you could see moose as well. Allow at least 2-3 hours if you wish to look around.
