Very eclectic selection of new and used vinyl and CDs, with a whole range of classics from rock, jazz, blues, country, and soul, as well as plenty of local releases and obscure world music. Prices are quite steep, though.

I love this store! Small and owner operated there is a good selection of CDs and vinyl. I go mainly for the used CDs because for $8 I can sample artists I haven't heard or complete my collections of my favourites. You can listen to them first, too.

A small store with an amazingly curated selection of cool, rare, weird, things you wouldn't see in other record stores. My partner and I dropped a few hundred dollars and found some really cool gems, awesome reggae selections and world music. I was so happy to see a small Italian section and bought a few records from it. I loved the rugs and something about the smell in the store just felt nostalgic and comfortable to me. I really appreciate the thought that clearly goes into ordering new, and curating used, vinyl here. Nice owner, chill store vibe. You'll find something here that you wouldn't find elsewhere.

The staff seem to have a great time there. I paid for a Gift Certificate and asked them to hold it so I could give it as a gift. When I came back to get it, it was no longer there, and neither was my money! Buyer beware!!

I came here to find something for my friend and left with a whole bunch of new stuff for myself as well. Great folks.And I love that rhwy sell NEW undergrou d hip-hop, like Adaptation. Classic.

Nice place well organized like a music museum an with an air of the old and ancient radios and audio tech of the day.. ...good for memories and discussions of older music and bygone days.Good feel.. to the energy and although the place is small it is filled with the old energies of record stores. As well used records and tapes and music carry this place from the present to the past seeing things from an older mindset.Gone are the days of good music and great singing ....Thanks for the memories.

This is the only record store in Vancouver where service is really friendly and the people working here frequently start interesting conversations about music with customers.The selection is well balanced between used and new, vinyl and CD and classics and new releases. Prices for new CDs and Records are usually higher than in other stoes but the used section has good deals.Only place in Vancouver to find a small but well chosen selection of Latin American or African music and where the staff can actually give you good information about this music.

Really solid and well curated collection of jazz, soul, hip-hop, and world music - used and new, on vinyl and CD. Highly recommend.

I have been shopping for CD's at Highlife for many years and have always found the staff to be very engaging, knowledgeable and helpful. If they don't have it on their shelves, they will order it for you no problem. Yes they specialize in what has become known as World Beat, but the range of music they carry extends into Roots, Rock (especially Classic Rock), Electronica and Jazz. They also have a great vinyl selection, DVD's, used CD's, and concert ticket sales. These, and the excellent customer service I know them for, are all the reasons that Highlife Records and Music have remained in business since 1982, especially these days when the major music stores have all but disappeared from Vancouver.
