What an amazing place! This rescue and its team of dedicated volunteers care for a full house of gentle souls but they are now at maximum capacity. Please visit their website to find out how you can help them Build the Dream"."

I've been volunteering here for the last few months and it is a fantastic experience. The horses are wonderful, the volunteers are committed, and the management is passionate and knowledgable.Every day that I come here I can just feel the stress of the outside world slipping away as if there is nothing left but me and the horses.

Great place for kids and families to volunteer and learn more horses and farm life. I highly recommend this place if your looking for a place for your kids to get their hands a little dirty and learn a little about hard work, responsibility and respect. All this, And you get to spend time with the wonderful animals that horses are. It's a registered charity too so you donations are tax deductible. The smiles on my kid's faces says it all though.

I wasn't expecting much. A good friend that is a volunteer invited me to see AHT. My interest was out of courtesy and curiosity .I asked why does my friend have such a commitment to volunteer regularly to feed, muck, wash, clean hooves as well as regularly guide open house tours and make trinkets for AHT charity initiatives? My late father also rode horses and a part of me held an interest to relive a moment of my past.Arriving on a dumpy dirt road sandwiched between the highway and a pig farm, AHT is an assembly of rudimentary structures that provides stalls for at least 14 horses, soft dirt paddocks with feeding bins, water basins and room to exercise. There is also an adjacent field where the horses can graze through a labyrinth of roped areas. The horses at the farm are an assembly of different breeds and kinds from Percherons, Belgians, thoroughbreds, past working and saddle horses, an ex police horse to a confirmation hunter. All the horses have been vetted before adoption/ arrival as in need of care to survive due to abandonment ,past injury or present age. Once at AHT, horses will never have a human riding on their back or pull a wagon or wheeled cart again. AHT is a refuge of respect and dignity for horses. As a tribute to the management of the farm, everything is impeccably in order from online volunteer schedules and farm developments to hanging tack and wheel barrels to posted feeding and care charts for each horse. A veteranian is on site or near by perhaps as much as 18 hours a day, seven days a week. Suffice to say that health care for the horses at AHT appears materially better than that for humans in Quebec! The task of care for 11 horses versus 6 million people is understandably easier except that AHT runs entirely on donations and volunteers and to highlight one point, these days hay is not cheap! In this time of Christmas, AHT is a kind of ongoing miracle and a prime example of giving back and respect for animals.Readers of my work are encouraged to take their families to visit AHT. The organization is holding a big fund raising effort Dec10. Needless to say donations are welcome anytime. On the day that I visited, the horses had just finished feeding and were largely stationary with their paddock partners while digesting their food. All the horses were clean and filled out. As a measure of AHT work one of them arrived at 1400 pounds and was now 1700 and strong. I saw no territorial positioning by the horses,no kicking and no ears pinned back. It was serene knowing that the horses had been taken from precarious places and were now in an eternal position of care while I was reawakened to the wonderful smell of horses.

Dishonest fundraising. Two big horses with only 1 small flooded shelter. Do not recommend.
