Sushi Bar Zipang
A gem of a restaurant. My Japanese friend took us here and helped us with the menu. Small place with a clean ambience. Service was quick and super friendly staff. Tried a variety of dishes and did not regret any dish. I would like to say that every dish a Must-Try. One of the best Sushi places I have been to in YYC! Our new favorite spot :)

They have the right idea. This sashimi ride bowl was good. But the qualify of fish was good but not exceptional. Maybe I went for lunch on Wednesday and no my weekend? I’ll still come back and hope to come on a day with fresher fish.

Came here when I was visiting Calgary and had the Omakase (roughly $75 per person). Did not regret it at all. The staff were friendly and helpful. All the food was fresh and delicious. I was surprised at the end when they gave us the dessert. I would recommend this place to anyone who is looking for an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant and is looking for a non ayce sushi restaurant.

One of best sushi bar in town. The sashimi was super fresh. Taste clean and no fishy smell. Delicious. The kitchen menu very good. Deep fry calamari and pork chop with mashed potato. Very well seasoned. Good variety of food for people who like to eat non raw food. Very busy here do book ahead of time.

I'm from California where we have great sushi. This traditional sushi restaurant compares with the great ones there. The place is moderately sized and has a nice sushi bar. The sushi is very fresh, the appetizers are very good and the servers are very attentive. I've been to over 5 here in Calgary and this one is my favorite. Here are some pictures for what I ordered over 2 days of coming here. Can't wait to keep coming to this place and trying other sushi/sashimi combinations!

Nice and cozy little Japanese restaurant with amazing service and food! The serving lady as well as the rest of the staff were all super friendly and eager to help. Sushi and sashimi were made quick and were delicious, definitely the best tasting salmon I've had. Pleasing presentation and they have nice grippy chopsticks. If you're thinking sushi/Japanese I highly recommend!

It was our first time here and we should have paid more attention to the recent reviews. We were the third couple in after they opened for the evening and it took our sushi 45 minutes to arrive. It seemed as though they prioritized takeout orders. Most of the food itself was quite mediocre and nothing was exceptional. If I returned, I’d try one of the cooked dishes on the menu and maybe reorder the salmon sashimi/sushi.

I haven’t been back since December 2020, but have been wanting to give Zipang another try again, after having used to frequent this place almost monthly. However I was discouraged by recent reviews commenting on the same type of poor quality that drove me away from this place back in 2020. In that last experience taking out , I was presented with consistently thinner discolored, unfresh salmon coated with a slimy film, enclosing multiple bones within. The donburi sushi rice was also quite mushy to the point where the grains sort of blended together into a soggy blob. I was shocked as this was the exact opposite of the type of quality that I had ever received from Zipang. The quality of fish had always been A+ and never disappointed. It has been an extremely difficult time for restaurants and I really get that, with supply and demand being an issue alongside the quality of fish constantly varying. At the same time, to continue to charge top dollar for a clearly diminishing in quality product is simply unfair. I really hope that future patrons will not have to share the same bad experience that I, alongside many others are having, and that in the future I can document a wonderfully positive experience when I revisit.

I have dined at Sushi Bar Zipang over the years, and my most recent visit was a little disappointing compared to past visits. The service was relatively abrupt and crass. The quality, although good, seems to have diminished and no longer stands up to the price tag. I found the sushi rolls fell apart easily, and were not presented well. The sashimi was definitely well portioned; however, the yellowtail fish tasted a little fishy for my liking, and the color seemed a little dull and grey compared to other hamachi sashimi I've had.I will be back in the future, hopefully the quality will improve.

Unfortunately I was not impressed by this food at all, with the prices they charge, you would expect a superior product to other places. In my experience this wasn’t the case, I paid $37 for one house roll, two maki rolls and half an Alaska roll for pick up.Service was okay, nothing exceptional. The sushi was shockingly unappealing and did not stand out as being anything special. The house roll was not even fully surrounded with rice and quite small for a $17 roll. The maki rolls were fine but barely any fish in them. The Alaska roll was the better one of the 4.This location is nice and close to me however I don’t like feeling ripped off when I decide to eat out and will be taking my business elsewhere even if that means driving further for a better product that has value.I don’t like leaving one star reviews but I was not satisfied with this food at all.
