Wapta Falls Recreation Site

Firstly, don't follow Google maps completely and screwed. Once you take a right turn from highway and reach near railway crossing, take a right back to highway ie the other side and head back to Banff. In next few kms you have a right turn to the falls. Google tells you to cross railway line. And then it's hell for the next 9 kms....no road and no falls ! Although you see fall from far, between trees. Photos are of a portion of the road on the way

This address takes you to the other side of falls only. You just need to drive back to Calgary from there then you will find the signboard to the Falls.

Only a very limited number of places to camp (tents only, and no fires allowed). No notable marked trails in close proximity. But the view of the falls is quite nice. If you want to go onna hike to see the falls, you must get back in your car and drive back to the highway, turn East and drive for a few kilometers, then turn off at the Trail Head.

I absolutely adore this site.Be very prepared it is not a very private site. People don’t read directions to the falls and in 2 days we told 30 (yes 30!) groups of tourists looking for the falls how to get there. We always offer people to come get a photo of the view but be aware if you do not block your site people WILL enter even if your sleeping and stumble around your campsite early in the morning.We even had a man “stalk” our site. Asked to camp with us while we were clearly in the middle of supper. There were many other sites available in the area. We said no we will let you have the site at 9:30am. He parked IN our site at 8am before we were awake car facing directly into our friends bedroom in camper.. When asked to leave he parked with the Car running in two different spots very close so he could watch our every move. It was very very creepy.Be kind to the lost people but put your foot down when people are being rude and pushy. First come first serve! Also don’t be like those people

It's a good off-road experience. Quiet roads. There's a brilliant view of the wapta falls from a height with the majestic mountains in the background. It's brilliant and must-see!

Had a great couple days at the site and enjoyed the spot. As per other reviews many people coming by, the majority were great (esp. if you like chatting with people from all over the world) but some would just walk in look around and leave so not terrible. Was here earlier July and around 6 the waterfall stunning with the sun on it, from 8 onwards mountains fantastic with sunset angles. This is a true BC Recreation site, no fees, no frills, leave it nice for the next users. Fraser Creek 2 km away a super clean water source but you should still filter it. Strong cell service at the site.

Amazing view!! Would camp here again in a heartbeat. We stayed three nights and loved every second. Make sure to take lots of water, fire wood and supplies as it is at least 50km to any stores or shops!

We went to the upper site where you can have a camp fire. So serene! I could sit there all day. Need a good Tele photo lens to capture the falls but regardless the view is outstanding!!

this is not the trail head..that is about 3km inside park (on other side of river). if you can't walk the trail the drive up to this (camping) location is well worth the 7km bumpy dirt forestry road.
