I volunteered for them for a few months and everything went very well! The animals were well taken care of, each of the animal's cages had toys in them, and the staff were very polite! :)

We adopted from this shelter two years ago and were extremely impressed by the cleanliness and excellent care for the animals. We were asked to wear booties, all animals were kept separated in order to cut down on disease transmission, and as a result, our new puppy didn't have any health concerns, not even worms. They run a tight ship, which we very much appreciated. They do not have a lot of money, but they do the very, very best they can with what they have. They serve a very economically depressed area, and are doing a great job of it. Adoption fees are quite reasonable given the population they serve and the great need for their services in the area.

I adopted a 5 year old male schnauzer “Tucker” from North Country Animal Shelter in November 2018. I would recommend adopting any of their sheltered animals. The staff works extremely hard in caring for them. Staff member Penny was very helpful and professional in the adoption process for Tucker. He is well adjusted and loved.ElaineRouses Point, NY

My experience has been very positive. I adopted a lab/pit mix in late December. The staff, in particular Penny were very caring towards the animals, and seemed to be doing their best with limited financial resources. She was willing to answer the phone on off-hour times, and quite knowledgeable about the dog's background. I had wait a few days after my first meeting for the dog to get a rabies shot, and she was able to get the dog tested for heart worm and Lyme as part of the vaccination - not part of the normal routine. The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is that they are somewhat expensive in comparison with other shelters. But certainly happy with the new puppy,

The place is absolutely dirty and mismanaged. They don't have the staff OR the time of day to properly care for the animals they have sheltered. To them the animals are clearly treated as a disposable commodity and not a living creature. They are extremely rude to anyone evem remotely interested in adopting and seriously scare people away from adopting in the first place. This place is a joke of an animal shelter and should honestly not be permitted to continue operation.

Our family recently 01/08 adopted a little chihuahua/terrier mix. Great little dog!! The staff was very responsive with letting us come visit, with my application and keeping me informed with the adoption process, as well as a flexible pick up time for our new fur baby. The little dog room was very clean!! Big dogs also all have clean pens. I definitely recommend this shelter if you are looking for a healthy rescue dog! They are all vetted, spay/neutered. UTD on all shots. Definitely worth the adoption fee.

Unfortunately, the owner" of this facility refuses to give back puppies that do not belong to her. They have proof that these puppies are theirs yet she has been nothing but rude and constantly giving them the run around. The worst part is they believe the puppies were stolen by her in the first place. There have been multiple people stepping forward with similar stories. I'll be watching the news for the report that will be airing soon."

Shelters are for animals that need homes, not ones that have a home. If you get an animal from this “shelter “ chances are you are getting a pet that already has a home. Why are there no posts of lost and found pets on this page so their owners can be located? They automatically list them for adoption and will not return them to their owners. If they were in it for the animals interest like they claim, they would be happy to find a missing animal already has a good home.

I visited the shelter yesterday (7/25/2017). The people working at the shelter are non-stop busy - - caring for the animals, feeding, water, cleaning, phone calls, paperwork, scheduling medical appointments, pickups, etc. I was very impressed by the animals health, attentiveness to & respect for the people working at the shelter. The adoption fees are very reasonable and obviously do not cover the expenses, medical, labor & other resources this no kill shelter & the people working at the shelter are making available to provide a safe, clean and caring environment for animals that some people just threw away from a last minute shopping afterthought or an inconvenience. The health of a community can be seen by how they treat the most vulnerable (children, elderly, animals) and the North Country Animal Shelter impressed me with their professionalism, ability and willingness to continuously provide resources, medical and care for the animals.

Will update the review as more information comes out, but at this time, it's not looking good for the organization. From multiple users I have talked to, this place should be avoided. There are numerous reports of outrageous adoption costs ($500+), poor conditions for the animals, and as of late, workers stealing" animals in the area. From their post on Facebook recently
