DO NOT GO HERE!!!! After having significant work done, our boat winterized and wrapped here we thought we’d be ready to hit the water this summer. Our FIRST trip out our boat would rev up then bog, almost leaving us stranded in Lake Ontario. My partner is an automotive mechanic and believed he knew what the issue was. We asked to bring the boat back to Hartzel Marine to have Dave LOOK OVER and confirm the diagnosis - all of which we would have been happy to pay for. However, after bringing our boat at the specific date and time provided, Dave was not there and no one looked at our boat. 3 weeks later we were woken up to a call notifying us our boat was ready….with an over $900 bill. This business performed over $900 worth of work WITHOUT NOTIFYING THE OWNERS OR ASKING PERMISSION - especially after they had our boat for 3 weeks of prime time in the summer. Not only was our boat not SIMPLY looked at, we were charged 5 hours of labour (at $125/hr by the way), almost $200 in parts and over $100 of an illegible fee on our receipt (how professional). My partner could have completed the work we were charged for on his own, cost free. When we stated that we were concerned all of this was done without notifying us, we were told if we did not pick up the boat and pay our bill we would also be charged for storage at a daily rate. This place has disgusting business practices and clearly does not know how to treat or communicate with customers. I guess they follow the “easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission” policy. I wouldn’t bring my wheelbarrow here let alone my $15,000 boat. Thanks a lot Hartzel Marine, now we are out over $900 and lost 3 weeks of boating - when all we asked for was a diagnosis. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS. Find somewhere else, save yourself the hassle of a surprise bill. And just to circle back, we paid for significant work in the winter….the boat should not have needed anything close to $900 worth of work on its FIRST run of the summer. Shows the type of workmanship they have…

Worst possible experience with this place. We brought in our 98 seadoo for issues with the stater about 10 MONTHS ago. We get it back today because we got tired of waiting. The carburetor is taken completely out, broken pieces of fibre glass on the body and the fibre glass under the hood bent and cracked preventing it from closing leaving the engine now exposed to water. Fibre glass needs to be taken out and replaced. Pieces from inside were left on the outside over the winter. Bolts were sitting in a puddle of water inside the foot boards. our brand new battery left inside over the winter without proper winterization. The mechanic took no accountability what so ever and told us to fix it ourselves basically. We’re out $555 and now have new repairs. The plug in for the trailer lights are rusted, pin missing for the trailer hitch. There’s probably more, this is all we could take note of before leaving the yard.NOTE I’ve never left a bad review online in my life. I just really felt this was worth it.
