MEC Calgary

We saw Linda in the cross country ski department today during a very busy Boxing Day sale event. She was wonderful! Linda took the time to share all of her knowledge with us and helped us to feel confident about our purchases and narrow down exactly what we needed! Because of her, we ended up getting a full set of boots, skis, bindings and poles and are truly excited to take our new equipment out on the trail ASAP! Thank you Linda! Awesome experience shopping for hiking/backpacking boots. Kevin was super informative, helped me with options for my foot arthritis and was consistent checking on me even though it was a busy Saturday. Honestly best experience I’ve had shopping for shoes at MEC. Thanks again Kevin!!

This place is very cool, though it looks identical to an REI in the US. One very cool difference is that at MEC, all the climbing protection is out and you can just touch it. At REI, It's all behind glass cases.

My very old hiking backpack had a broken buckle and I walked in looking for another one as my backpack was pretty useless without it. The woman at customer service (I didn't catch her name) was extremely helpful - not only did she completely fix my backpack, she gave me two options for a fix and refused to take payment for it. I'm so grateful to her (and MEC) for giving my backpack a new life :) Also the store has a great selection for anything you might need for the outdoors.

I came here to get a new lightweight backpacking bag as I'm getting older and need something lighter . Emily M helped me size up a new bag , but they were out of stock so I ordered one online through MEC . I also needed a sleeping mat which she helped me pick out . I was very happy with her level of customer service and appreciated the time she took to go over the weights and specs of all the products to help me make a decision. Emily rocks .

We've been MEC shoppers for decades, but like other reviewers on here, had a terrible experience trying to return a defective product at this store.We purchased a self inflating sleeping pad. After 4 days of leaving it to inflate, it hadn't inflated at all (and I mean, there was no air in it). We had looked at a demo version in store when we purchased it, so we did know exactly how it should work. We hoped to simply exchange it for a new one, assuming it had been damaged or was just defective. The return desk was rude and condescending - arguing with us for about half an hour. They even went so far as to tell us we needed to purchase a non-compatible air pump and try and adapt it (self inflating pads aren't designed for pumps). After a lot of arguing, the staff member accepted the return but refused to sell us a new one because our expectations were clearly out of line. Sorry we wanted our self inflating sleeping pad to inflate??I contacted the corporate e-mail address to share the experience, and they did try and help and got in contact with the store. But I requested a store follow up, as we really just wanted some comfort that this wasn't normal course of business, and a month later, the store still hasn't contacted me. Sometimes no response is the ultimate response!Be cautious with this location if you expect them to honor their own Rock Solid Guarantee.

I'm about to embark on one of the most challenging hikes of my life, and my uncertainty about what to purchase led me to this remarkable establishment.From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the warm and welcoming atmosphere. But it was Mercedes, one of the most delightful and knowledgeable employees I've ever encountered, who made the experience truly unforgettable. She devoted two hours of her time to guide me through various bags, sleeping pads, and other essential gear. Her passion for helping me achieve the best possible hiking experience shone through every step of the way. Mercedes even postponed her lunch break to ensure I had all the assistance I needed!The entire staff was equally kind and helpful, making this adventure sports store stand out from the rest. A special note for the store owners: please consider giving Mercedes a well-deserved raise.I can't recommend this store enough for anyone seeking top-notch gear and an unmatched shopping experience. They've got plenty of wonderful outdoor gear, everything from sleeping bags to bike accessories. I would highly recommend shopping here if that's what you need. A special thanks to the employee Ren for helping me find exactly what I needed in record time.

I haven't been to MEC in + 5 yrs. Drove for over 1/2 hr - 35 km specifically for a Canada park pass & the July stickers weren't in yet. Figure it out folks . It's not rocket science. Be prepared if you're going to participate in park pass sales.
