After searching with Apple and Garmin GPS finally we reached the starting point of The Abyss. There are no clear direction and trail is terrific. It was almost 6.00 pm and we gave up with Kids. One should try early morning.Rating is based on searching of the place and information posted online.

To get to the Abyss (ominous name) you need to follow the blue signs for the Extension Ridge Trail. Park by the power lines on Nanaimo Mines Road, look for the big info sign then walk to the first blue sign, it has an orange diamond marked 1". Walk along the power line until you see a blue sign "trail deactivated". Walk up to it and hike up the path to its left. At the top walk right towards the trees. Your hike goes up hill

What a wonderful experience. It's a must see.The trail to it is a bit steep. I think when it's raining, it could be very slippery. So take care.

A nice hike to get up to The Abyss but the path isn’t well marked at all. There are a few different trails so we downloaded a hiking trail app to get proper directions. An easy joke for people in moderate shape but lots of uphill and sometimes steep walking so not suited for people of reduced mobility

Park next to the gate off harewood mines road bring bear spray, bears have been seen there once and awhile if traveling alone, follow the path that takes you under the electricity wire post and that hugs the tree line, watch your grip some of the terrain is a bit slippery, takes about 30 mins or so to get up there and you may hear from time to time the gun range firing off in the distance, but once you get there you get to see the crack in the earth it's about 50 feet or more in length, 15 or 30 feet deep could be more can't see and watch your step.

Do not follow the driving directions to this pin. Go to the Abyss Trail marker instead. The driving directions to this pin will try to send you down a private drive. There is a trail head near that point that takes you on the extension trail, which passes the Abyss, but the Abyss trail head is much closer (about a 20 minute hike). Once you get on that trail, follow signs for the trail, but expect that after the first few markers you'll just be following the beaten path because the markers stop appearing.

This was a beautiful walk. The Abyss is just past marker 14. Knowing this beforehand would have been helpful.

This was not the easiest hike and not well labeled at the time (I went in 2019) If I wasn't with someone who knew where it was I would have gotten lost haha It was nice though :)
