Black Diamond Concrete

My experience with Black Diamond Concrete for a recent driveway and retaining wall:--First, it took them 50 days to do my driveway. From when they got the job to when it was poured. Granted, it was a rainy spring, but there were many days that they weren’t working when it was good. They later told me they were working 5 other jobs. Lots of frustration there.--One guy sold the job to me and said a bunch of things would be done one way. A second guy actually did the work and many of the details the first guy sold didn’t make the translation to the second guy. Lots of frustration there, too.--The second guy also didn’t plan the rebar so that there would actually be enough on pouring day.--Speaking of pouring day, if I wasn’t out there in the concrete with them, they would have ‘lost the pour.’ It was curing as we were moving it and finishing it. They didn’t have enough help on-hand to do it by themselves.--Little details like twisted boards that they used for forms or elevation of the sidewalk (supposed to be flush with the lawn) were completely ignored. More frustration.--The last detail, that closed my experience with these guys perfectly, was the second guy telling me that they would be back to pick up two large piles of dirt that they put on the side of the job during the grade-work and that he would appreciate being paid in full now so that he wouldn’t have to make another trip for the money. I told him, “Sure. I will TRUST you to come back and take care of those piles.” A word is a word, I figured. He never showed back up. I gave them two weeks with two texts and no responses. I finally did it myself.I can thank them for the driveway. It is there and better than the old cracked one. I could have sure done without the many frustrations, though. Totally unacceptable.This was my experience with these guys.I am writing, because I would have loved to see an honest review. At least I would have been emotionally prepared for these types of behaviors. This was my first time working with these fellas, and thankfully, I won’t have to again. Also, I owe these guys a thank-you for teaching me about the general reputation that contractors have. So “Thanks, guys.” I learned a lot about what I can expect if I am not careful.My wife suggested keeping a ‘retainer’ until the job is complete to your satisfaction. 10% would have probably gotten these guys back to finish cleaning up their mess. That is a good idea.

I hired Shawn Beekman, owner of Black Diamond to do a footing and slab for me. He took a check for $3000, then didn't show up to do the work. Was out of contact, then had all kinds of excuses. Then he told me he was too busy to do the work starting a new business in Idaho, and refused to send my check back saying he would find some else to do the job. He referred me to a Corey, who was angry at me saying he didn't have time for my job and didn't know why Shawn referred him in the first place. He has never answered my phone messages, emails, or texts. Refuses to send my money back and has apparently blocked my number as all I get is 2 rings and a busy signal. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

These guys took my deposit in a December, finally started the project the beginning of a March. While demoing by driveway they neglected to call the required 1-800-dig and severed the Comcast line for my neighborhood. A month later and nothing has progressed. They provide zero updates, respond hours after I reach out and usually with a variety of excuses. Bottom line: I have a torn up dirt driveway now with zero hope of any resolution. If they complete the driveway by June I’ll consider deleting this. If it’s up, NEVER hire them
