The Barrie Midwives are amazing. They take close care of the expecting mothers, all the way up until birth and after for a bit as well. Thank sweet baby Jesus for them. This is a free service funded by the government. They accept expecting mothers who do not have ohip. Even if you are not planning a home birth they will still provide this service free of charge.

My wife and I love the Barrie Midwives. We are having all our children with them and we are/have done home births with them. I don't understand why everyone doesn't use midwives and especially the Barrie Midwives. Even from the perspective of the father I found them concerned about me as well. They always wanted to know how I was doing in regards to the pregnancy and if I had any questions for them. They really helped us be at ease during the pregnancies in a way in which I think a family doctor is not capable or trained.

I can’t say enough about my amazing experience with this team. I was waited and joined the midwives at nearly 34 weeks for my second birth after a stressful and painful first birth in hospital with an OB. If your interested in a supported birth where you are physically and mentally prepared, even if you want it to be in the hospital, you should consider the midwives. I had a beautiful second birth where my midwife cared for me, and another midwife cared for my baby in the birthing room. I was more ready to handle pain from my natural birth mentally, even with less pain relief options during Covid. The time spent at each appointment was used well, and I felt like the midwives were getting to know me rather than just going through a checklist with a familiar face. The entire experience left me feeling more informed about my baby and my body and thus empowered in the process.

I filled out and put my name on the list as soon as I found out I was expecting. I called a month later to follow up and was told I was first on the list and chances were high to be accepted. I called in today to follow up again and was told there were a few people ahead of me and my chances were slim to none. How you go from first on the list to not is unfortunate.

Barrie Midwives
Pros:1. They’re a team of 3 midwives for each pregnant person. So you don’t have to worry about them not being there for you as one is always available. (I’ve heard many stories of people’s chosen doctor missing the birth due to them either being on vacation, being with another patient, etc.)2. Leading up to your birth, you meet each midwife so you can feel comfortable and supported. They are there for the mother and the baby and even after you give birth, they are there to help with any issues (ie. postpartum depression, trouble breastfeeding, etc).3. As you go through your pregnancy, they give you information and support on issues, concerns and any medical care that you may need.4. When you call with a concern that’s not urgent, they get back to you fairly quickly and the receptionist is very kind in passing along your information to your midwife team.5. With covid safety restrictions, they want to keep mothers and babies safe so they are very careful. Some safety precautions they're taking as of July 2022: face mask required, children (excluding newborns) are not allowed at appointments, if you’re sick - reschedule appointment or do a phone appointment so that you don’t pass a virus onto your midwife or other pregnant people.I’ve gone with the Barrie Midwives for two pregnancies - four years apart. I decided to go with midwives because I wanted to be around feminine energy and feel supported. I struggle with opening up and voicing my concerns as it takes me a while to feel safe and comfortable. Having 3 midwives who care about you, listen to you and let you feel safe to ask questions or voice concerns, really helps you feel confident at a time when you feel vulnerable or anxious. I got an epidural the first time and plan to again if it’s possible. This second pregnancy, the ultrasound showed a possible birth defect. I did the amniocentesis and other tests, everything came back normal. My midwife team gave me information and support through the stressful process.

Absolutely love the service from Barrie Midwives. If you want a more personal touch instead of feeling like you're on the clock, I highly recommend Midwives. They care just as much about your mental and emotional state as they do about your physical health and are willing to take the time to actually listen and talk with you.
