I had no idea there was so much to learn about Sockeye Salmon. This tour is a must for anyone; truly an eyeopener. Josephine at the tour office building is an absolutely amazing person! Anyone wanting to stretch their legs and learn a thing or two needs to do this! 2018 is part of the 4 year cycle and should be a record run... supposedly at the peak the 1st week of October.

It's a really nice place to enjoy the annual salmon run. 2018 was supposed to be a dominant year. We haven't had the feeling that it was a dominant year though unfortunately...but that's how it is. Still it was a very cool experience!

Wonderful experience to see this evolutionary journey of the salmon as they find their way back to their birthplaces. 2018 is a dominant year & we may have missed the huge numbers but what we did see was spectacular. Had a beautiful sunny weekend as a bonus!

This year water level is a bit low, but you see the salmon run more clearly. The local sign and directions are unclear. We have to use our cell phone apps to navigate.

Perfect place to learn and watch the salmon run! We saw groups of salmon in the river. There are more of them coming. There is a $5 entrance fee for private vehicles(per vehicle). There is a booklet about life cycle of salmon for another $5 if you want to buy at the entrance, which is optional. Be prepared to spend 4-5 hours here, as one of the trail is 2.8km and the other one is 1km. Really worth the visit!

2018 is the dominant run that comes every 4 years. But don't fret, next year (2019) will also have a strong salmon run. Most bus tourist gather at the viewing platform but I suggest you take a few hours and venture out to the trails for a closer view and livelier salmons.Remember NOT to step into the river as sockeye salmon lay their eggs in gravel near the shore!Walking along the Plaque Channel trail, the river is quite flat and shallow so you have a few chances to view these brave parents up close. To see the jumps in action, you can head towards the canyon (follow the lower path of the Wade road trails, spare around 2 hrs if you turn around at the first lookout). The current runs pretty fast and there are a few gravel beaches where you can sit, picnic and observe the salmons' fight their way up.
