Markham Midwives

Team 4 Markham Midwives were amazing. I had such a fabulous experience during my pregnancy and postpartum. I especially enjoyed working with Amanda who took extra care in everything she did and was extremely informative to help ease my anxiety or stress. It also helps when the midwives are non judgemental and is there to help inform/educate me without making me feel like I’m such a newbie (even though I used their service for my second child).

We had a wonderful experience with Team 1. We felt fully supported and informed the whole way through. This was my second child, and Team 1 made the entire process (pregnancy, labour, delivery) a much better experience overall than my first, even when we were faced with complications. Also, the midwifery unit at MS hospital was wonderful!

I gave birth in August with Team 4. Amanda Commons is an incredible midwife. She is so knowledgeable, reassuring and supportive. It was a great experience with her and the student midwife, Samihah. The support before, during and after birth was great. Alison, Sherene and Bailey were also great. Shanna, the office administrator, is a gem. She was so easy to work with. We hope to be back with Markham Midwives next time!

Choosing to go with midwives was the best decision for my pregnancy journey. I was with team 1. I never felt rushed in the appointments & they answered any questions I had with expertise. They were supportive especially during post partum when I was struggling with breastfeeding. Stephanie delivered my baby and was encouraging and supportive during my labour constantly reminding me my body knew what to do. I would definitely go with Markham midwives again!

I didn’t have the best experience here. My team was cold. It felt as though they were doing this only because it is a job that pays. They also never recommended natural alternatives, etc, to me. It was always generic products from shoppers drug mart. I would have to do the research myself to find natural alternatives or ask around in mom groups online.I agreed to having a student present for my appointments, only I didn’t know that majority of my appointments were mainly with that student. Had I known, I wouldn’t of agreed. The student was friendly, but because she was learning, she wasn’t confident in what she was saying and that would not calm my worries. If she doesn’t know 100% and I don’t know 100% then what is what? The receptionist was super friendly and I also had a substitute midwife for my post delivery appointments who was lovely. That midwife actually advised me of natural supplements for myself and my baby.No one from my team was present for labour or birth. They came after delivery. A midwife from the Durham team came though and oh my goodness, she was super friendly and kind. She made me feel so comfortable and supported. I wish I was in their area and was able to receive that support by them from the beginning.I don’t think I will be coming back to this location when I plan on having another baby since my overall experience was bad. However, I will see if Durham Midwives will accept my application instead when the time comes.You might have a better experience, but for me, it wasn’t the best.

From beginning to the end these ladies were amazing. I definitely made the best decision going the midwifery direction this being my first pregnancy. The Markham clinic took such great care of me and the baby after he arrived. I would recommend midwifery and this clinic to anyone.

The postpartum care exceeded my expectations! Laura, the receptionist is outstanding and responds very promptly to emails.Thank you to everyone in Team # 4 but a special thanks to Amanda! Amanda has such a calm demeanour when speaking with you and you can tell how much she cares about your wellbeing and ensures all your questions are answered. She was the one to deliver my first born and in the midst of a pandemic, I could not have had a better experience in the Midwifery Unit with her. Thank you so much!

I gave birth in 2020 and honestly, I still have mixed emotions. I always mentioned to my husband I don’t want Shereen to deliver the baby and lucky for me I received what I put out there. *sarcasm*She was more of a MedWife than midwife. Inattentive, cold, I felt rushed and a nuisance, she pumped me with a ton of Pitocin hours in. I heard her mention to the student “we’re going to be here a while” … sorry??? She had the student do absolutely everything and the student was lovely but needed guidance - which Sherene did not provide. When it was time to push she was nowhere to be found, drafting her birth report I guess so she could get out of there quicker. She sent us home less than 3 hrs after the baby. She didn’t test my baby for jaundice because it “looked healthy” only to then tell me that my baby might possibly have jaundice during follow up appointments. My VERY last appointment I was sent back to the hospital with a newborn to bring them a blood sample. That’s weeks after giving birth.I did however love Amanda on my team!! So it’s hard to write a review when you like half of your team but not the other.
