About the Business

Rapscallion & Co. | Rapscallion is a mischievous and vibrant part of Hamilton’s restaurant scene, dedicated to offering the city’s culinary connoisseurs a full nose-to-tail experience. Every day from 5 p.m. ’til close we offer a regularly changing, meaty and creative blackboard menu in a laid-back setting. Our skilled and passionate chefs do it all, whether it’s curing, salting, boning, stuffing, wrapping, charring, braising, or just leaving the meat raw. Above all, we love preparing food that pushes boundaries and pulls you outside of your comfort zone — just a little bit. We get tremendous joy out of food and offer menu items that you are unlikely to find at other local restaurants, such as oxtail, pig’s head, stuffed saddle of rabbit and tongue ‘n’ cheek. While we love meat more than some people love their firstborn, we are always very happy to accommodate those who don’t. Vegetarians and vegans are always welcome, and our meatless menu is available seven days a week! Also, for those of you that are gluten-free, gluten-conscious, celiac, wheat-averse, hipster-gluten-free, gluten-intolerant, gluten-sensitive, gluten-allergic, wheat-intolerant, non-celiac-gluten-sensitive, barley-hating, or just think wheat is kinda scary looking, we offer almost everything without gluten. We look forward to seeing you. We are a proud member of The Other Bird family.

Ambiance: upscale, elevated, well dressed, great service, professionalPatio: well built out. Good spacing and ability to offer shade or more sun. Green turf gives the patio a backyard feel. Fence got a fresh coat of paint, garden and flamingos give a funky feel. It is a great patio.Service: professional, smooth and attentive.Food: fantastic in one word. Some notes on the dishes: Trotter croquettes: not too porky, great balance with the mushroom sauce. Kale salad: got it on a whim. Well crafted. All components come together to produce a fantastic crunchy fresh dish. Enjoyed it. Seafood Trio*special, not on reg. Menu*: the oysters with caviar is a home run, and the shrimps are beautiful, so meaty. Bone Marrow: it’s a staple at this restaurant, if they take this off the menu like they did like the duck schnitzel I guess some people will witness a grown man have a full body tantrum right then and there. This wood plate perfection I heard is referred to as “meat butter” so true, so true. Please finish this dish with bone marrow luge with bourbon. Ask and you will enlightened. Let’s just say it’s the best way to enjoy a shot of Jim Beam.My observations: staff may consider pacing the dishes. Our bone marrow board came out and it’s a big hunk of stuff on a small table. Then 5 mins later our other dishes arrive. On a small two person table you have to try and make stuff all fit. My common sense, especially for one of the higher end places in Hamilton, to be aware of this and possibly address it by far not a deal breaker.Overall: Rapscallion is fantastic restaurant and we will certainly be back come sun or snow. Great menu and flavourful dishes. Their Aperol Spritz is super tasty.

Beautiful evening with delicious food. We were in a group of 5 so some of the dishes felt too small too split with everyone (ex. 3 dumplings or Small monkfish) just something to keep aware of if everyone wants to try everything. Each dish had unique flavours and some made us stop and go wow (get the whipped feta!).Cocktails were also fantastic. Thank you for the experience, hope to be back soon!

It was a lovely atmosphere, the server was pleasant and our food was delicious. They had a wide variety of drinks and a long wine list. Really had a great experience here

Visited during a quick trip to Hamilton back in November. The service was top notch. We didn’t inform them we were going to a concert later that evening, but the restaurant just knew about the concert and accommodated us by sending out the food as it was prepared instead of the usual slower course style. Their food matched the level of service as well. Everything we ordered was delicious, and I would especially recommend the chicken liver brûlée to anyone as it was amazing. Would definitely visit again if given the chance.

A number nice restaurant in Hamilton. The food was great, our server was excellent. Drinks are good, I would definitely love to come back and try more of their other options in terms of food and drinks. One of them being the oysters since they were sold out the night we had our reservation. The one thing I didn't like was the steak being overly peppered (most likely due to the sauce it is served with). Good place for either date or with friends.

Instead of Easter dinner at home we decided to go out with the kids (I had laser eye surgery and needed to rest over the weekend). Amazing decision! The cocktails, food and service were top notch and bites of everything were so delicious - we were literally all in foodie heaven! The chicken pate had me in a trance - so damn good!!! Also note worthy the calamari perfectly cooked and the spices complimented the dish really well. Cocktails were beautiful, tasted great and the stemware they were served in was just gorgeous. For 6 people food, cocktails, tips and taxes ran us at about $550 - totally worth every penny spent - love this place.

I went here for breakfast and let me tell you in all my years of having breakfast I’ve never breakfasted like this in my entire life….This place is such a hidden gem … the chef James is just unreal … him and his team are literal magicians..The staff were beyond helpful and their menu recommendations were unreal ..We had their :Breakfast Poutine ( literally unlike anything I’ve ever had and was a major hit )Crab cake BenedictSteak and eggs ( when I tell you this is the best steak and eggs I’ve ever had … the steak just melted on my taste buds )Deep fried French toast ( it was the perfect way to end the meal )All and all … I would spend any and every occasion here ..

Overall nice experience. Definitely one of Hamilton’s top restaurants. Our waiter was attentive and on the ball, which was really nice.We started off with oysters - they were unfortunately underwhelming. The house mignonette was a disappointment. The cucumber pieces weren’t cut small enough, and there wasn’t much liquid to it.Then we have the daily duck charcuterie board. Foie gras Torchon was delicious. The baguette was a 3/5 for me.For our main, I have the fish (I believe a seabass) with a 7 veggie risotto. My husband had the steak poivre. Both were lovely - but I’d try something else next time. For dessert, I have the crème Brûlée (delicious) and my husband had the chocolate bar (which he also loved).Atmosphere was nice, but I’d personally turn the music up a little not to hear the tables next to me so clearly. Slightly louder music makes people lean in to hear / listen, thus creating a intimate ambiance. All this is obviously just my personal opinion.Love the decor! All this said, I would definitely go back!
