LOVE THIS PLACE!!! Highly recommend!! Me and my boyfriend went here earlier this month and it was just what I was expecting! Foods were so delicious and the staffs were super friendly!!! Definitely will go back there again!

Really fun restaurant with good food. Took off one star because the seasoning on the sushi was inconsistent, most was perfect but one over salted. Otherwise, food was tasty, drinks were flowing, service was perfect, and atmosphere was lively.

Very rarely do you experience something so incredible that you regret not experiencing it sooner.That was my dining experience at Kanpai Izakaya.If ever there was a place I could put at the top of a hidden gems list for Halifax, this would be it, by an absolute landslide.Food is top notch, authentic Japanese comfort food - It will never disappoint, it is simply perfect. The service is attentive, friendly, and spot on, always there right when you think you might need them. But what takes Kanpai Izakaya to a tier of its own is the atmosphere this restaurant is able to curate. You enter and feel like you've walked into a small family run restaurant/bar off a quiet side street in Kyoto. It's warm, interesting, comfortable, and somewhere you will want to spend hours (there's lots of Sapporo to keep you company too).It also feels as though the restaurant has not been fully discovered. And as much as I would hate to have trouble getting a table, it would be a shame if people didn't experience Kanpai Izakaya.Absolutely blown away by this place, there's no excuse not to try it.11/10, just sublime.

Went here on Christmas Eve and was not disappointed.The sushi was amazing. Fresh, well made, and absolutely delicious.The atmosphere was simply wonderful. You could dress casual, semi-formal, for even straight formal and wouldn't feel out of place.Definitely will be returning.

One of the best Japanese-Korean style restaurant in Halifax! Great atmosphere for a perfect date night with good selection of liquor. Omurice was great.

This place is super cute and cozy but looks like it could be bumping on a busy night. Good music. Good atmosphere. Food presentation is great! The beef tartare was delicious, as was bbq eel, the fried shrimp was nice and meaty, I was a bit let down with the skewers which weren’t nicely charred (also wasn’t feeling the chicken meatball— not my thing I guess) and I didn’t really like the little fried fish with the mayo (fish was a bit bitter and mayo sauce was underwhelming) I will definitely come again and try their other tasty looking dishes though!

I ordered salmon poke for pick up. I paid $23 (including tax and tips).First thing I was concerned about was the portion size. Little did I know it would be so small. They could certainly put at least more rice. The bowl is half empty, or half full if you will. All the ingredients were fresh, had good texture, but I certainly needed some sauce. Imho, the taste was a bit dull without it. Do they have sauce options? I wasn’t offered and did think of asking about it.I enjoyed it. Oh silky salmon, it was delicate and delicious. Would I pay the same price again for the same bowl? Probably not. Only if it was bigger and with sauce options.

When you enter the restaurant, all the staff members welcome you loudly. The inside of the restaurant is clean and there are drinking guests in the evening, so it can be a little noisy. However, fresh ingredients and decorations are pretty, so I want to take a lot of pictures. I drank two beers and shouted “KANPAI!”. Everyone, don't drink too much. A little drinking is good for blood circulation, but drinking too much can hurt your body.

So delicious and got the food pretty quick! Servers were very nice and my friends and I enjoyed the food a lot! Thanks for the great experience!! Definitely coming back sometime soon!
