Great piece of Quebec history. Wonderful old church - sadly not open to the public. Some stunning original properties and shops of interest plus a magnificent mural just off the square depicting Quebec historical figures. Well worth a visit.

The old town was very charming. Liked the topography, the stairs, the building architecture, shopping windows, the solo player and singer, the street scene, the patios, enjoyed a cup of green tea at leisure at the foot of the Breakneck Stairs, while watching people going up/down the stairs at easy or with efforts.

Important square in Quebec city, lovely stores and restaurants. Also you can see there the Notre-Dame des Victoties, one of the ancient churches in North America.

Very disappointing. What was supposed to be the most important landmark in the whole city, has been completely ruined a large wooden patio deck and restaurants playing BRITISH music! Not to mention a couple of jerks who thought the front of the church would be a great place to park their large pick-up trucks! The Lower City in general was a bit of a tourist trap, except for the Royal Battery. The Upper City is far better!

We stayed here over the New Years Eve weekend. The first room we were put in was 319. We could hardly get the bus boy cart in it. The room was very small with a slow working tiny toilet. We asked for another room because we were to be there for 3 nights. They gave us the one beside it 318, much more space, even though the attendant didn't seem to agree. We were quite happy with this room over our stay. The bed was amazing, along with the pillows. Great little hotel, with great parking. The restaurant was quite good too, although a little pricey as we had the NYE planned meal at 150$ per head.We would stay again for the ease of access and location to old Quebec. Thanks

This place is just like the movies. Instagrammable place! I guess this has been a place of shoot for many historical movies. Lots of restos around. Church was not open when we went there on a weekday

Place Royale
A quaint and beautiful town square whose architecture and character will make you feel like you are in Europe. It is simply a good place to walk around, relax, and take in the stone buildings, the flowers, and the Notre-Dame-des-Victoires church. Best of all, it is just a few minutes' walk from the restaurants and stores of Petit-Champlain.

Place Royale is where Samuel de Champlain founded the City of Québec in 1608. With buildings that combine French and British influences in North America, the square has a charm all its own. This is the precise location where Samuel de Champlain built the first permanent French settlement in the Americas. Erected in 1608, his first abitation was a fort, store, trading post, and residence all rolled into one. That’s why Place Royal is considered the cradle of French North America. The varied architecture reflects the successive periods of French and British colonization. A few steel and glass structures reflect current 21st century trends. The perfectly restored houses that surround Place Royale have become restaurants with patios and stores that sell souvenirs, crafts, and more.
