An extraordinary piece of history that shouldn't be forgotten. This place solely exists due to a warm hearted passionate family & friends. Absolutely my favorite place to visit no matter the season. Please do donate to this outstanding pursuit of preservation.

Silversmith Power & Light Generating Station
Amazing to tour this vintage power generating plant that's been in continuous operation for 124 years and contributes 100% green energy to the Canadian national grid. Had an extremely interesting conversation with the head operating engineer. Well worth visiting Sandon just for this, but there are lots of other interesting things to see as well.

What an amazing facility of incredible historical significance. Hal deserves the Order of Canada for preserving and maintaining this powerhouse and the turn of the past century equipment he keeps running. We are extremely grateful for his time and hospitality to educate us on the history that has gone into the generating station and Sandon. We look forward to the day we can return to investigate everything else Sandon has to offer.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about the Silversmith Generating Station. The tour, staff and facilitates are fascinating. To see a generating station in continual operation for 125 years that you can just wander through it amazing. Thanks for all your efforts.

Pretty cool place. The fella caring for the plant had been busy with another group but his grandson was around to answer questions and was pretty knowledgeable.

Silversmith Power & Light Generating Station
Hidden Gem-historic site. We had no idea what to expect and unfortunately just allowed enough time for the museum. The young man in the museum had us totally captivated by his animated stories of the history, society and “power plays” in what, in previous times was the booming town of Sandan. We plan to make a return visit to Sandan to see the still operating historic power plant. Walking shoes suggested.

Awesome pre-1900 working generator! Maybe the oldest in North America. Can really geek-out on the Physics. Total find plus all the old school buses line this ghost town. Under-rated for an hour of a lazy day.

Fascinating tour of this original power plant , all the staff were so passionate and knowledgeable , quite the piece of history. Added bonus we were able to charge our EV from original Tesla engineer - so cool !

This place is amazing. It is a working utility! so many historic things on exhibit, excellent tour of the facility, a great place to see how power is actually generated using hydro. Do not miss!
