Chartwell Rideau Place Retirement Residence

This is one of the most beautiful retirement homes we have seen - and trust me we visited many before recently selecting RP. Shared interior spaces - of which there are many - have a bespoke boutique hotel rather than institutional feel. We selected a ground floor apt which has both a private patio and shared terrace for outside strolls regardless of covid lockdowns. The towel service and cleaning staff are friendly and efficient keeping apts tidy while respecting privacy. Programming is plentiful and varied for all tastes from art history, crafts, movies, exercise, quiz nights and more. A monthly newsletter would be a wonderful addition especially in such a challenging time to help share news and the homes approach to Covid restrictions.

My friend and I chose this residence because my mother's experience there had been good. In fact he and I would often be her guests for a meal.He is very well-settled in a studio on the first floor where he can see the river from his bed and he has sliding doors to his private patio right on the river. As a former windsurfer he is thrilled to be so close to the water.The area although secluded and quiet is close to all amenities including one of Ottawa's most beautiful parks down a 67-step staircase a few minutes walk from the residence. There is a pedestrian bridge that crosses the river all of which makes for a very pleasant outing.He has made friends and is enjoying his stay. He finds the food excellent and the company convivial.Staff is caring and attentive.For these reasons, I do not hesitate to give this residence a five star approval rating.
