The Great Bear Cafe
I have stopped here for gas and refreshments several times on the way from Edmonton to Cold Lake and back. The coffee is fresh, the food good and the gas is often the cheapest around.Not having pay at the pump may be a deterrent to some customers but in reality it give you the opportunity to stretch your legs and to partake in the many excellent offerings they have for you.

We pass through town often and have eaten here, and usually it's been decent. Today I ordered a breakfast sandwich with hash browns for my husband, chicken strips and fries for my daughter, and a Reuben sandwich and fries for myself.The hash browns were overcooked, the chicken strips were tiny and ridiculously overpriced. We have ordered them many times before, and they were never as tiny as they were on this occasion.But worst of all the ruben sandwich was prepared poorly. There was no mustard, and it was in between two soft slabs of bread that were not rye and NOT grilled. Literally whole wheat bread just pulled out of the bag!The sandwhich wasn't even cut in half! How can you possibly think that's an acceptable way to serve a sandwich to a customer?It was clear that the two young men that were working the cafe we're struggling to keep up with orders. I can be forgiving, as I overheard one say that he was new on the job, but he should be trained properly and told how to prepare the food before just throwing him to the wolves.The wait time was ridiculous considering we were trying to get a quick bite on the run before we had to face a long drive home. But to open my fast food box to discover a soggy sandwich on ungrilled bread where the sauerkraut had soaked through and made the bread wet? Inexcusable.Not a great way to spend almost $40!!

My husband and I had their grilled chicken burgers and they were nearly like homemade. Delicious chicken, fresh ingredients and nice portion size. Friendly staff and clean place.

Hard to find a place like this these days! Delicious food made fresh to order. I highly recommend! 5/5Ps. Friendly note that it’s inside the esso convenience store, it took us a little while to figure out where to go. They could do with a sign

Excellent fresh and hot food! I’ve tried several things on the menu over time, and nothing has disappointed. The staff here are very friendly as well. Price is great for what you get.

Amazing service. Sandwiches and food was all fresh.Good food. I would prefer to see things for sale that are local and not made in China indigenous items but that may have nothing to do with this adorable Cafe.
