I have used Lake Home Design for a number of projects, both for clients and for my own home. Working with Ed is a pleasure. In my business (construction) I try to be available virtually all of the time and respond to all emails, texts and calls within minutes. Ed runs his business the same way and he seems to be available pretty much 24/7.Ed brings a 30 year knowledge of home construction to his design business which is incredibly helpful. I save a lot of back and forth time with my clients as Ed can immediately explain to me the pros and cons of particular designs and structures.The software he uses is awesome. Once I get his initial design, we can make changes via a virtual meeting and I can see the impact of the changes on my screen as he makes them. This saves so much time as the design is always exactly what I wanted by the time our meeting ends. He can also show me a number of options on the fly, so that I can make decisions then and there instead of having to schedule another meeting with Ed.I have used Ed for both small and large projects, and the attention I receive and the quality of the work remains unchanged. I used Ed to design my House in Sudbury MA. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Ed was patient and extremely accessible. He was also a great resource while the house was being built. I had multiple subcontractors tell me how impressed they were with the house plans that Ed put together. We highly recommend Ed Buckingham. My wife and I worked with Ed in 2016 on a major remodel of our home and were so happy with his work that when we wanted to add an addition to our home in 2018 (in-law apartment), we did not hesitate to bring our project to Ed.Ed visited us in 2016 for a 3-hour consultation. He listened carefully to what we wanted and gave relevant and sound advice that demonstrated his deep knowledge and construction experience. When we hired Ed, he was always very responsive to our questions. His use of “GoTo Meeting” and expertise in “Chief Architect” software allowed us to discuss the preliminary designs and see modifications in real time. Ed was very creative and came up with great design ideas. We moved the kitchen from an inside room (no windows) to an outside wall with windows. Ed helped us design our new kitchen, office, mud room (prior kitchen) and bathroom. He also designed our addition (in-law apartment) which included a kitchen, living room, two bedrooms, laundry room, bathroom and basement. Ed supplied the Architectural Plans for all of our projects to our General Contractor.We have a 1911 home in a historic district, which means that the Historic District Commission (HDC) needs to review any modifications that change the exterior of our house. The HDC had an issue with a ramp we were planning for the addition. I spoke to Ed on the phone and within the next 2 hours we had a solution and a set of plans that satisfied the HDC’s concerns. This is one of the many reasons why we highly recommend Ed Buckingham.

Ed Buckingham has made the experience of building a new home so transparent! I contacted Ed with my hat in my hand, really not knowing what to expect of a residential designer and what his services included. Ed was very careful to explain what a residential designer is, and what his service would bring to my dream home and what should be expected in a set of construction documents and how to use and read them. He listened to me.Ed uses all the latest technology including Chief Architect residential design and drafting software, as well as Go-To-Meeting so that we could both be speaking to each other while viewing the plans (each on our own computers) as we made our way through the unlimited design phase. This made everything crystal clear for me and the general contractor. He even made site visits to inspect the work and sent me pictures of the progress as the project progressed. Being from Massachusetts with limited time to go to the site, this was invaluable and priceless!Ed’s work is on time, exceptionally detailed and clear. I believe what his services cost is incredibly well priced and fair. I could call him anytime and he always picked up the phone and had answers to my questions and concerns. I am not using Ed Buckingham. But when I talk to him he was very knowledgeable knows exactly how to help everybody in the types of situations where he is needed. fortunately in my situation he was able to help me out with his knowledge but not with his expertise.

We met with Ed on a Sunday afternoon, less than one day after reaching out to discuss his services. He was informative, knowledgable, and willing to spend as much time as we needed to discuss options. Ed even encouraged us to reach out to other residential designers to see how his services compared.

Ed has been there for us from the day we contacted him about designing our retirement home and he has been fantastic to work with. He made the process easy and as painless as possible. With an initial concept of the type of house we were looking for Ed was able to create an entire house. He has been open to meeting via Zoom ( as we live out of state) making this long distance partnership workable. From the start he has been open and honest with us about his role, expectations, availability and fees. Communication has been excellent, even with numerous changes along the way. We have been amazed by his ability to show us our home via his CAD program. It has been so much fun to watch him make changes in real time so we can see how our ideas change the design.

We had a rough idea coming into the process but me and my fiancé didn't quite know what to expect.Ed not only designed our home but has been providing us tips and information regarding other steps of the building process. He has the knowledge, expertise and experience that made it that much easier for us to get the first steps of our home completed.He is extremely detail oriented, responsive to communications, flexible, and easy to work with. I'm someone that has a hard time visualizing the layout so his 3D renders were such a great way to see how everything will look once completed as well.

Worked with Ed B this April and May 2019 and the entire journey was quick and most efficient. We are both reconfiguring and adding to a 100 yr old four square. Ed's experience was displayed throughout the process.
