J & K Home Building Centre

This store lost 2 customers this week. The very unfriendly people at the service desk made me feel not just unwelcome but like a complete bother when I asked to return a $12 light bulb which I had purchased at another Home Hardware in Brantford. I was planning to purchase other items but after being denied a refund, I decided to pick up the items I needed at Canadian Tire. This was in addition to a bad experience my husband had earlier in the week when he purchased a 2 x 4. When he went to pick it up outside as instructed, there was no one there to serve him. He eventually had to call out several times before someone finally came, very slowly, to check the receipt - then told him to drive around the building to pick up that 1 piece of lumber. We might have thought that he'd grab the board and bring it to him.

I was into J&K Home Building Centre yesterday looking for a galvanized reducing coupling for an outdoor tap. The girl at the front counter was very nice and the young man in the plumbing department was very helpful as well. Unfortunately the young man helping me find the tap attachment I needed was not that knowledgeable about this department so he asked the female service manager to assist us. She was talking to another employee and declined to come over. The young man continued to look with me for another 15 minutes and then when the service manager was alone, he went over to ask her for help again. Again she declined to help. This, by the way, was 1:45 pm and the store was empty. This young man and I continued to look for another 15 minutes. The service manager was still free but did not come over to assist us. I then went over to her and specifically asked her to help me. Only then did she come over and finally found the one tap attachment they had in the store. However, she said I could not have it because they would need it to reorder more. I suggested she take a picture of it and she still said I could not purchase this attachment. I was in the store for 40 minutes. I was the only person in the store and I have never encountered a lazier customer service person in my life as the woman they had on as service manager yesterday. I then went to my local home building centre in Paris. I asked the manager, Peter, for the part and not 2 minutes later I had the part, paid for it and was on my way. Peter and his staff are top notch. I will never go anywhere else again. If you are unfortunate to have J&K as your local building centre, do yourself a favour and make the drive to Paris. I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.

Over priced low quality lumbers sold here. Picture is one of many defective 2x4 I received from my ordered.

Love the sayings on the signs! Get a chuckle every time! Someone must have fun making them up! Great advice even in Pun form to remind me of tasks I need to complete as the seasons change!

In-store staff are kind and helpful.Lumberyard staff are a mixed bag. Some are really helpful, but one guy in particular was rude and condescending when I needed to buy several pieces of wood. I asked if they could cut it since I didn't have a saw to cut it myself.This guy kept asking if I was 'done yet' and joked that I must not know what I'm doing. He also accused me of wasting their wood left from one off cut. If J&K has an issue with cutting wood, they you shouldn't sell it by the foot ! After this experience I will just go to Home Depot.

Nice little hardware store. Very limited selection on a lot of items and the hours could be better but I will always try and shop here if I can because the folks are nice and it is close to my home.

I have dealt with this store for over 40 years and have always found them so helpful. As a senior now who uses a walker, I opened the front door and saw my front walkway was all ice and concerned I couldn't get to my car in the driveway......yes, I wasout of salt!. I phoned in the afternoon, and a driver was at my door within the hour with salt......left and came back and shoveled the ice clear so I can get to the Dr.'s in the am. I wouldespecially like to thank Joe, for his efficiency who expediated things when answering the phone, and Erin, who delivered and removed ice from my walkway.....they both went above & beyond expectations and I thank you for your kindness.Phyllis AndersonWayne Drive

Terrible experience. They don't return the item I bought yesterday. They say they dont stock that item anymore. Never ever again. Just go to home Depot. Very convenient return policy and clower pricuss

Lumbar yard = 5 stars, they were fabulous and helped us out a lot. I really appreciated their kindness.In Store = 0 stars, treated us like garbage because we had never ordered lumbar before. I was really surprised, they were sarcastic, rude, asked questions we didn't know the answer to and then just refused to help us. It was really upsetting and I would be very surprised if that's how the owners of this business want their customers treated. Home Hardware is a Canadian own business and I like to support them whenever I can, but I would caution other 'newbies' going to store after the way we were treated.

The delivery truck left splattered oil all over our driveway - it looks terrible! We've reached out to the store owner to have this resolved. Someone was sent to power wash the driveway, which evidently didn't work. The owner said nothing else can be done (as their insurance won't cover the damages), so we're left with a completely stained driveway (driveway was done early 2021). Sorry but someone's liable for this, and its not us.
