Hutten & Co. Land and Shore

In late summer and fall of 2020 we asked Hutten & Co. to give us some ideas and direction on how to improve the approach to our house on Lake Huron, and how to protect our shoreline from the rising water levels. Their landscape architect developed a wonderful plan for us that captured just what we were looking for (even though we weren’t quite sure what it was we wanted!) and worked closely with us over a period of a couple of months to fine tune the design to meet our wishes. Their team also provided detailed costing and was very co-operative as we worked to modify the design to balance budget and wish list. The project manager, Chris, was extremely helpful and transparent in all matters relating to their approach, on site team, scheduling, and changes. Change requests from our side were handled well, with cost support provided to us ahead of time, for our approval. In some cases costs were reduced, based on some activities we took on ourselves or eliminated from the project. There were no surprises. In the event of weather or other issues during construction, we were notified every time and were never left wondering about when or if the construction team would show up on any given day.The team assigned to our project was fantastic – we suspect that we got their best guys, as we could not have asked for better workmanship, thoughtfulness, creativity, and attention to detail than that which Peter and Eddie brought to our project. It was a ten week project involving the placement of multi-ton natural boulder elements and limestone pathway and patio slabs several inches thick and many feet across. A careful touch with the excavators was crucial and the guys delivered. The completed project not only perfectly matched the landscape plan created for the project, but in fact enhanced it through the careful on-site work of the team – Hutten’s landscape architect commented that they delivered a completed project that far exceeded his expectations and visions of the project – ours too!The trees, shrubs, flowers and grasses were planted professionally and the quality of the nursery stock was excellent. In summary, we are very pleased with the outcome and would recommend Hutten & Co. to anyone considering a landscape project.

We purchased a dock from Hutten’s this summer after years of high water and wave damage to our previous seasonal dock. With the intense waves of open Lake Huron it took three visits but we believe they got it right. The team was exceptionally responsive and up for the challenge after each storm. Every day we enjoy the space above the water. Super happy with our investment. We don’t even refer to it as a dock, with the height and stability it’s affectionately called our Pier!

Hutton & Co installed a floating dock on a large pond at the bottom of our property. The crew was great. They arrived promptly on the designated day, assembled the components in the midst of swarms of mosquitos and black flies and then positioned the dock perfectly. To get to the water they needed to drive their truck and long trailer holding the three dock sections across our lawn and navigate a steep hill. No problem. It was obvious both men knew exactly what to do and completed the job to my complete satisfaction. The dock looks great and the customer service was exemplary.
