I experienced a flood recently and a project manager arrived within the hour. He took the time and explained the process as I had never made a claim before. The staff who attended to do the clean up was courteous and went the extra mile. My repairs went smoothly, better than I expected. Thanks to First General for a job well done!

During this windstorm, I had shingles missing and my fence blew down. We have pets that we care about and First General attended promptly to set up a temporary fencing so the dogs can go out safely. The roofer was here the next day. Very impressed with First General and their staff

This company's bid was so low that the insurance company only accepted their estimate. Then bailed on the job before it was completed saying they lost money. Showed up for work sporadically, poor materials with wood on back porch cracking already and it is not even a year old; site supervisor not knowing what was going on and sent workmen to do jobs that were either already completed or were not ready to be done. Then did not give us a proper completion certificate, accounting for work they had done or come back to do repairs. They are ignoring emails asking for help, with problem. McAvoy Belan, our insurance brokers, for years, have been no help and are the ones who recommended this horrible company.

I had a burst pipe recently, and the staff attended promptly. They were courteous and professional. The staff was very helpful in guiding me through my claim, as I had never made a claim previously. My house looks fantastic! I highly recommend First General!

I'll save the write-up of my circumstance, but the project manager I was assigned was incompetent, required regular follow up and needed direct instruction from myself and the insurance company on how to proceed with my dwelling cleanup and repair estimate.... all of which was very basic.The clean-up crew was messy, unorganized, and almost unsure of what to do without instruction.More of the mess resulted from them vs. the damage from the water entry we had.I would recommend asking your insurance company to use another company if First General is recommendedWhat should have been a simple one day water cleanup and three day dry turned into a month long ordeal and a repair estimate that had to be revised numerous times due to incompetenceAll that said, we did not proceed with First General for the repair work... I couldn't imagine how that experience would have been if they couldn't figure out the cleanup part.

The worst. We had a flood due to a faulty faucet on a long weekend. Our insurance company recommended First General because our 1st choice weren’t available. From the very beginning we were concerned. The crew that came didn’t seem to know what they were doing. Our adjuster told them that they had to get a pod to store our belongings during the repair. They ordered a smaller one than they were told would be required. They showed up sporadically. They didn’t remove the subfloor in the bathroom that the flood started in. Instead they drilled a bunch of holes and sprayed disinfectant into the holes. They packed items that got wet with dry things then put them into the pod. They dropped expensive item onto the wet carpet and left them there to get mouldy. The final claim amount was almost double from damage that the crew created. When they started the reconstruction the drywall was to be cut at a height of 2 feet in the areas that were wet. The actual cuts ranged from 8”-18”. They didn’t cut any drywall where corner beads were. When we asked why we were told that it was fine. After a couple of months and problem after problem we told our insurance co. that we wanted a different company. When the other company came in they couldn’t believe what our basement looked like. They removed the bathroom subfloor to find a lot of mould. Their quote was $5000.00 higher due to having to redo most of what First General did. Now we’re dealing with our insurance company for our contents. The issue is that when the initial clean up and packing was done a lot of stuff was discarded that shouldn’t have been. Thankfully we kept our adjuster in the loop so it was documented.

PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS COMPANY!!!!!!! When I first read the reviews on this company I ignored them. After having this company do the restoration trust me when I say it's VERY TRUE... We had a leak in our bathroom so they came . The project manager Dave was very nice at first and convincing. Well, a month and a half later project was not started. Dave is not reliable, lies and has poor follow through. I want to start by saying the first thing that came out of first general mouth is if you do most of the the work yourself you can work off your deductible. Well we worked like dogs and at the end First General tried to claim that they did it! In fact they claimed thousands of dollars that was not done. What scammers. The trades for First General were horrible, tardy, very messy and things were damaged. Especially the painter from CJ painting, we had to fire him because the painting was so so bad. There was no clean up and Dave was unavailable.

Outright lies!! My insurance subcontracted to them and they called with 1.5 hrs and told me their crew was in St Kitts and would be there the next day. Next morning, I'm told a guy has to come by and take a look. Then I escalated to the insurance company and their story changed again that they would be there later but would eat up most of my claim money. First General knows the game and it's all about quantity and how much money they can milk. They are not in the business of helping people during their worst times. You're a plague on society.

Just wanted to thank the crew who did a professional job replacing my front door. My wife was so pleased with the care and effort put into the replacement. Looks fantastic. Thanks again. Also to Dave who took care of everything from the start of the process...you are truly professional.

We had a great experience with First General. They arrived at our home in Welland quickly after we called and were extremely professional to deal with. We had water come through our floor when our sump pump seized during a storm. First General came in to do moisture readings and helped us to assess the damage. With their help and equipment rental, we were able to avoid an insurance claim and get back up to code quickly. Thank you for your terrific service!
