Alert Bay School

I sent all three of my children to Alert Bay School, my youngest still attends. She gets As and Bs and I feel she is challenged daily and learning at grade level. My older children also did well at this school and went on to be on the honour role at N.I.S.S. Through this school my children participated in school-hosted Cultural Celebrations at the Big House, science fairs and the after-school sport and art program. The after-school program regularly brought in Missoula Children’s Theatre to produce musicals. They also brought in people to teach gymnastic workshops, dance workshops, drumming workshops just to name a few. The school has a large gym and computer lab. Nice playground with a play structure, soccer field and school garden. Walking distance to forest trails and the beach for fun science lessons. They eat soup lunches together weekly. The school gives me the feeling that the students and staff genuinely care about each other.

My kids went to this school for 2 years.They made some immediate long term friends which helped with their two year stay.The principal (Turner) is amazing and did some great things with our youngest child.The grade 6/7 teacher (Harris) had a huge heart and genuinely cares about her class.The primary teacher was well like by others but my kids were not taught by her, so again, no comment.This school is very heavy into their culture, which is amazing, but I was concerned about the core competencies (English, math, etc.). I suppose this can be expected in a small community school with multi grade classroom.
