Just wanted to share my experience and hopefully serve as a warning to others. All of this has been well documented as instructed by the CKC and CKCSCCTheir waitlist was 1-2 years. Then magically they said they had 1 puppy in particular I could have right away and skip the line, as long as it was that exact puppy, no other puppiesThe puppy was given her final vaccine by the family’s grandson in the living room, from their own private stock of vaccines, as we were headed out the door with our new puppy. Our puppy had a bright blue glossy eye. I was told the puppies do not see a vet prior to going to their new homes, nor are they professionally vaccinated by a vet. If something was wrong puppy’s eye, we would need to be seen by their personal vet to confirmWe went to our vet to find it was very damaged and was not reactive to light. Our vet hypothesized 2 causes, either our puppy had inflicted some sort of trauma to the eye early in life like a littermate scratching the eye/ the trauma was never treated, or she had an infection that went unnoticed/untreated and allowed the eye to continuously deteriorate. Had the puppies gone to a vet, our puppy’s eye problem could have been treated. We then went to CHK’s personal vet, and they agreed with our vets findings and hypothesis. Both vets agreed our puppy would need to go see an ophthalmologist. $500 refund was given, but deducted the cost of our puppy needing to see their own vet.The puppy also had Giardia and coccidiaWe had also now exceeded 8 months without receiving CKC registration papers for the puppy. Iwas told by CHK they did their part, and the CKC must be just slowI called the CKC myself and gave the puppy’s info to ask for an update. They informed me they had no record of a litter being born that day, and had no paperwork at all for any of the puppiesThe CKC sent a letter citing the infractions to the breeder giving them 30 days to register the entire litter, and process the registration of my puppy. 30 days went by and the breeder ignored it. On the 31st day, the CKC sent another letter saying they did not comply, and therefore they would be proceeding with the disciplinary committee, including examining suspending their CKC license. On the 32nd day, magically the litter was registered and our puppy was finally registered- but with the wrong tattoo information. The CKC fixed her errorsAll by the first birthday: diagnosed her as having luxating patellas, hyperextension in all hind joints, and overall extreme ataxia in the hind end. It was suggested was neurological. We went to a neurologist, and they strongly suspected Syringomyelia. The neurologist told me to immediately inform my breeder so they were aware they were producing SM in their breeding stock and offspring, as any responsible breeder would want to know and ensure it didn’t happen again, as the neurologist said this is highly preventable through MRI testing the parents. I emailed Jennifer, and she replied to the email saying it was highly unlikely she had that at such a young age and she would need to be older to be able to diagnose that. They DO NOT do MRI testing on parents for SM/CM. They went on to say normally when they hear one of their puppies has SM they would offer me a new puppy, but they will give me back all of our money so they do not have to deal with me anymoreWe got an MRI which showed Syringomyelia, Chiari Malformation, Hydrocephalus, and spinal disc disease/degenerationAll of this at the ripe old age of 1.5 years of age.I sent the MRI report and they sent the refund money with the promise of me not bothering them anymoreI hope to serve as a warning to others. The only dog I could have just so happened to be the one with corneal disease, syringomyelia, Chiari malformation, hydrocephalus, luxating patellas + ataxia. So now I have a dog in chronic pain needing lifelong medical treatment, that could have been prevented with MRI testing and higher breeding practices/standards

I will say they are a great group of people there but two years ago December 17th 2017 we bought our dog name Jupiter she’s a beautiful dog it was a great puppy we love her to pieces but for the last I’d say year maybe less I’ve been trying to get the certification papers from them I’ve talk to them on the phone sent emails and yet I’m told that they were in the mailSo I have now going to the doc for answers, I did email the regulatory board I’d see Casey and waiting for a Response I do recommend these breeders!!! But I also recommend that you get all the certifications before you walk out the gate with your new puppy I’m still waiting for a response and I will be getting a response thanks Jennifer and opah I really appreciate the work you’ve not done

Jennifer McCauley is one of the premier breeders of Golden Retrievers and King Charles Cavalier Spaniels. Her years of breeding experience and her work as a national judge allow her to know how to breed quality puppies. A lifetime of commitment to both breeds.

Please be aware that this breeders breeding practices and standards have really slipped and a lot of corners are being cut. Basic minimum standards for breeders are that all puppies get seen by a vet and examined, and vaccinated by the vet before going to their new homes. Sadly these puppies never get to see a vet, even when something is wrong. Another subpar practice from this breeder is vaccinating puppies themselves from their own private stock of vaccines stored in the family kitchen fridge. The minimum standard would be these puppies getting vaccines stored safely at the vet in sterile conditions and in the proper fridge environment and handled by professionals, rather than stored in a dirty food fridge and vaccines being performed by amateur. The living conditions are filthy, with dirty crates stacked high in the kitchen. There are too many dogs. A tell tale sign of a backyard breeder is breeding several breeds. Did you know they are breeding Cavaliers, Golden’s and Manchester Terriers? Did you know the MT’s have attacked the cavaliers? Or that the Golden’s live outside in plastic cow huts year round? These are all facts many people have seen and anyone can see for themselves upon their first visit. They have way too many dogs, you can’t even see all of them as most of them are tucked away in the basement out of public view.Additionally, they claim to offer full health clearances on the breeding parents. However, in order to breed effectively, best practices are to do health clearances every year to prove the parents are in great health and are at a low risk of passion on health issues. But in reality this breeder gets health clearances when the parents become of age at 2 or 3, and then those are the clearances you are provided with. So at the age of 2 the parents were healthy and clear of issues, but now they are 6-8 years old and the health clearances are outdated and expired. But yet they can still claim they were done. It’s a high breeding standard that cavaliers get MRI screened for Syringomyelia and Chiari malformation, however this breeder does not, and continues to use the same breeding stock even since it’s been proven to be actively producing syringomyelia. Many Cavaliers with SM can be asymptomatic, so you can’t just say “they don’t have it, there are no symptoms”, the only way to know is yearly MRI testing. Many locally breeders attend the yearly MRI clinics hosted with discounted rates to ensure the parents are clear of SM. This breeder chooses not to, and as a result is actively producing SM in offspring. So buyer beware, this is what you’re supporting.

Absolutely beautiful Cavalier King Charles puppy. Now Rembrandt is 15 months old and has been in perfect health since I picked him up from Jennifer and Opal over a year ago. He’s also a stunner. I’m constantly being stopped on the street by people who want to take selfies with him (plus ending up in a film shoot for an ad…we were walking home at the time he was ‘nabbed’). A fabulous and loving little guy!

Jennifer McCauley, the inspiration behind Chrys-harden, is welcoming, knowledgeable, provides detailed documentation and offers ongoing telephone advice and support. She has a number of 13 year old Cavaliers with all their teeth attesting to the success of her breeding goal of good health. (This is our 4th Cavalier and we have known others, all of whom had dental problems and none of whom lived beyond nine). Our new baby, Arthur, at 10 weeks, travelled six hours home relaxed and interested in his surroundings, indicative of Jennifer’s success with respect to breeding for superior temperament. We are looking forward to many years of joyful companionship. Thank you Jennifer!
