Hertz Car Rental - Calgary - 5th Avenue Southeast HLE

I rented a car from this Hertz location on December 21st, 2022 during all th caous going around with planes not taking off and all car rentals sold out. I booked online December 20th, 2022 after I finished my shift and new the next day would be 50/50. Valentino Paulose not only got me a car but was so helpful and super friendly. Great customer service was giving. We got to visit as he worked his magic to find a car for me that would make the trip home. I got home for Christmas when I know many did not, because of this man. He was a pleasure to deal with as we got to visit for a few hours. Thank you so very much and my family thanks you as well.

I had an incident where I ended up in a ditch in Manitoba. The Hertz/Dollar/Thrifty people in Manitoba helped me out a ton! Luckily I had purchased insurance through them with $0 deductible when I took the car in Ontario, so I didn't have to pay for any of the damages to the windshield or the bumpers. The back bumper was missing a piece too when I got out of the ditch (didn't notice until the day after being pulled out.) I had to pay out of pocket for the tow service though.The moral of my story is get the insurance if you're going a long distance. You never know what'll happen along the way.

Customer service is not part of their dictionary! All starting with their disability to take a brand new credit card that works anywhere else just because it does not have a magnet strip anymore (they do not come with magnet strips anymore for security reasons, they try to tell you that magnet strips are to prevent fraud, so this gives you a first idea of how much they now about what they are talking). You call their hotline because the car broke down and they tell you one thing to do, then you show up and they tell you a different story and everyone is just saying it’s not our fault. Someone needs to take responsibility, especially for such a big company and not just say it’s not our fault all the time. We ended up waiting half a day for a replacement car and (of course!) they didn’t offer any compensation or discount for that.If you can, avoid that company and go for a rental company that isn’t just interested in taking your money in return for as less service as possible.

Super happy with the service! They are very friendly, quick, fair, and transparent in what they do. Next time I need to rent a car in Calgary, I won't think twice before heading here! Thank you!

Great service! Quick clearance. Excellent price! Due to the lack of a sedan, booked in advance received an SUV for 3 days at the price of a sedan! I recommend to everyone!

Convenient location if you work or live near downtown. No problems as long as you book the car in advance

I'm extremely disappointed!!!!! I had booked a Tesla a month before our rental date for my husband as a Christmas present. Hertz was aware of this and were very accommodating, saying they would even give us an upgrade to a Tesla Y for him as it is a present. I thought this was very kind. HOWEVER, when we arrived we were given a Tesla 3 (which is fine... not a problem) but it only had 48% charge and we were planning to go to Banff straight away as we had tickets to an event there. We were told we could get there and have 8% battery remaining. I am definitely not taking that chance in the winter. If there is an accident or a traffic hold up, then we are stuck on the highway without charge. (Rental companies rent vehicles with a full tank of petrol...of course they should rent a vehicle with a full charge) They knew a month in advance of this booking....we did not just walk off the street and say we needed a vehicle!!! We missed our event as we were trying to get more charge on it. The car was also extremely dirty inside and out - it was not washed at all from the last customer. Filthy. Plus, I am very cautious of car companies and check cars thoroughly before I leave the lot. The gentleman who gave us the keys was very annoyed I was taking photos and checking it. He kept telling me that he already did that and that he would be email me all the photos. He was very rude with me checking the damage myself. It's a good thing I did check it myself because the email with all the photos did not arrive. Extremely upset with this hire car experience and the ruined Christmas present idea for my husband.
