Walking On Ancient Mountains Trailhead
I hiked the Walking on Ancient Mountains Trail on August 1, 2020. This is a short but scenic 2 km trail leading through forest and over the rock face with spectacular views along the way. It is located 11.5 km north of Black Lake in Nopiming along a winding gravel road. This was a well marked, self guiding trail with numbered markers along the way, corresponding to information about the history of the area in the trail brochure. The trail started through forest and then began to climb up on top of the rocky landscape and above the tree line. The rest of the trail continued on the rock face (which is pegmatite rock, formed my magma, a hot liquid melted from the Earth’s crust where it has since crystallized and become solid many years ago). There were amazing views of the surrounding forest along the way, for as far as the eyes could see! Just completely natural, untouched and pristine wilderness. There were some ups and downs climbing on the rocks but it was not difficult. There were a couple sets of stairs provided as well to make it easier. The trail ended on the summit of a large rock outcrop with panoramic views of the forest and lakes in the distance. There were picnic tables here to sit and admire the views. The trail continued back along the same path. It took me around one hour to complete the hike including a stop for snacks at the end. This hike was worth the drive and it was very beautiful! There is a lot of interesting history here as well if you take the time to read the brochure.

I like the uniqueness of this trail. It will take you over the bedrock and is mostly above the tree line. It ends at the highest point where there are excellent views. It is well marked and I picked up a self guiding brochure at the Black Lake campground office before I came. It took me about an hour round trip. Definitely one of my favourite short hikes.

Amazing View! Short walk from parking lot through the bush, and then essentially it's mostly incline shield rock the entire way to the lookout points. The first lookout comes quick, to the right. But you have to continue up and left, to get to the main lookout. There are a couple of stairways up some huge rocks, and picnic tables at the end. It was overcast and windy when we went (April 2, 2021) but you can see 360° around. I did the top of the world hike" as well

Walking On Ancient Mountains Trailhead
A nice little hiking spot. Took about an hour to get to the lookout, have a short lunch, and return to the parking lot.The self-guiding interpretive walk has a lot of thought put into it. The trail is well marked, especially on the way up. It is a little confusing at spots in the way down, but if you go towards the direction the markers are facing, you should find your way.Worth it if you are camping in the area. Not really worth coming out for if it is just a day trip to the area.

Walking On Ancient Mountains Trailhead
Short trail (2km there and back, at most), it took me and my dog no more than an hour and that was because we stopped at the top to enjoy the view for about 30mins. The trail is well marked, has good elevation changes and has some great views on your way up. There is a parking lot at the beginning of the trail with an outhouse, as well as a bin for garbage and recycling. If you're in the area and are looking for a short hike with some views, I highly recommend it!
