Bike Repair Centre

I recently replaced the rear tube on my 25-year-old Raleigh mountain bike but somehow wasn't able to reinstall the derailleur properly. Last week I took the bike to Bike Repair Centre to have the derailleur installation fixed. I was told that they'd prefer not to work on cheap bikes like mine. I was further advised to get rid of it and buy a new one instead considering the bike had some parts that were pretty worn. The bike wasn't that bad to begin with in my opinion and more importantly it has great sentimental value to me.The repair estimate of $160 for a $300 bike didn't deter me. The final tab came in 20 dollars below estimate as one part thought broken turned out to be fine. I picked up the bike yesterday and spent one hour today negotiating the hilly, winding trails in my favourite park. At the end of the ride, I concluded that the money was well spent, hence the 5-star rating. The price is very reasonable considering the amount of work involved and current soaring inflation.

I've just biked home from the Bike Repair Centre on my newly repaired bike and I'm delighted by the experience.I've tried out five other Vancouver bike shops over the past decade for various small and larger repairs. Over the past three years, I've been to three different bike shops because of a clicking sound and a ride that felt increasingly not smooth. A couple of places thought they knew what it was and fixed something, but the clicking continued with no improvement. The third place couldn't hear the noise and suggested I just wasn't getting the friction shifter for my gears exactly in the right place.When I brought my bike into the Bike Repair Center, John went over it with me and very quickly showed me a number of problems - a wheel that was ancient and causing vibration, a gear set and chain that were worn, and pedals that were worn out and loose, among other things. As I'm someone who doesn't have a background in mechanics, I greatly appreciated John's ability to quickly and accurately pinpoint the problems and explain them to me in simple terms without talking down to me. He was great with all my questions and seems to consider education about bike care part of his job.It's a slow season and he said it would take a couple of days to finish all the work, but called me the next day to say my bike was ready.The ride home was unbelievably smooth. No noise or vibration, everything feels steady and tight, and my bike feels much safer and infinitely more enjoyable to ride than it has for the past couple of years.I'm delighted with the whole experience and will be returning here for ongoing bike maintenance and repairs, and recommending this place to friends. I highly recommend John for all of your bike maintenance needs. Not only is he a skilled mechanic with a wealth of experience, he is also honest and efficient. I came by the shop several times now, to have my bike tuned-up or fixed and I really don’t go anywhere else for bike repair/service. I don’t have any issues after having the bicycle fixed, price is excellent, and there are really only good things to say about this place.

Quite surprised with good reviews for this shop but I don’t sense the same. First impression outside the shop looks horrible to me while inside is much better. However, what I felt when being consulted and quoted by the staff was like a cheat, he wanted to offer a package that costs a brand new bike. This shop think you’re a newbie and will try to steal money from you for what they consider their high standards. Their attitude never works for me even though how good their skills can be.

I went to Bike Repair Centre because of the Google reviews and was not disappointed. Replacing a tire and brakes came to a reasonable 200 bucks inc. tax. Pleasant service was delivered within the estimated time frame.Since A-1 on Main Street is gone, this will likely be my go-to for cycle maintenance.

Brought in my bike to replace worn out brake pads. I was very impressed with the level of service I received. Informative & sincere. I can tell they care about their customers. A great spot for cycle commuters who need more frequent bike maintenance.

John reminded me of the best car mechanics, asking first about budget, how and how often I ride, and he delivered a prompt quality repair that has held up. Plus his shop reminds me of a craftsperson’s workshop: a fun visit.

Bike Repair Centre is easily one of the best bike shops in the city. My wife and I have taken our bikes here several times and each time the quality of the service and workmanship is incredible. John is honest in his work and upfront about what needs to be done to your bike. As soon as you enter, you know that you are in the hands of a professional who absolutely knows their craft. Also, the prices are reasonable and fair. I will be taking my bike(s) here for years to come.

Been here 3 times over the years and will continue to do so. Have only gone for routine bike maintenance but it's because the result and care from these visits allow us to ride our bikes with confidence and for long periods of time between much needed maintenance. John is very thorough, meticulous, and honest with his work - you know what you're going to expect when you drop your bike off - never tries to impose a product or extra work - just gets the job done. It's pretty impressive how much he knows or remembers of your bike without looking much into his records - he knows his work and prides in it. There are many bike shops/repair shops around the neighbourhood and he has predominantly the highest rating and reviews and there is truly a reason why. We highly recommend Bike Repair Centre.
