Bakes by the Lake, for being only one year in business, has made such a remarkable entry into the world of gluten free and dairy free. Their mantra is made from scratch and love. From the inviting surroundings of the space, that feels more like a home, to the amazing selection of goodies, every one of your senses is offered at treat. Colton and Nancy are brilliant at what they create and the hospitality in which it is delivered.Bakes by the Lake's first tea on December 15th was a memorable occasion for all and every Friday is a hit with Pizza Friday specials.If you don't live in Orillia, make this a destination visit an you will be soooo happy you did. This is my designated happy place.

Everything is absolutely delicious!! My sister has severe allergies to gluten, dairy, and eggs so it is always a struggle to find her baked goodies that are enjoyable. We’ve tried many vegan bakeries in Toronto and have never really been impressed. We recently bought a property just past Orillia and we were surprised to find a vegan bakery close by. After trying it, we were hooked! I never make a trip up without stopping at Bakes. We’ve never had a treat that’s disappointed. Everything tastes home made and not unbearably sweet. The pretzels and bagels are the closest to the actual thing that we’ve ever tried. I also enjoy all the goodies from Bakes and normally would dread eating vegan baked goods. I can only say amazing things about this place!! We are always greeted by friendly smiles. It’s honestly such a pleasure visiting them every time!! The pricing is also very reasonable for vegan baked good. I’m always pleasantly surprised when they tell me the total. We’ve always spent an arm and a leg on vegan goodies.Would definitely recommend giving this place a try!!

The best gluten free/vegan bakery around! I have tried sweets from many gluten free/vegan places, including many in Toronto, & nothing beats Bakes by the Lake. The people are so friendly & I’ve never been disappointed by anything I’ve tried, the cinnamon buns (warmed up in the microwave) are my absolute favourite! They also offer a delicious breakfast/lunch menu, my mom & I went for Mother’s Day & had vegan eggs Benedict, it was out of this world amazing!! Have been going since they opened & it has been so nice getting to know the people at Bakes by the Lake, I will never stop going!

We had a baby shower at Bakes by the Lake this weekend and it was phenomenal. None of us are gluten free or dairy free eaters, but the food, space and staff were so incredible we chose to have the shower here. The time and care that was put into the food and ensuring we had a great time was so appreciated. The prices were very reasonable, and there was a small fee for renting out the outdoor patio. We looked into a number of other restaurants for our event but none were as accommodating or as kind to deal with as Bakes by the Lake. If you're considering having a small event, definitely check this place out!

I have been lucky enough to share a building with Bakes for a few months. On days that they are baking everyone in my space is drooling over the smells coming from the bakery- especially pizza day! I am not exclusively dairy- free or gluten free and I love their baked goods. Anything with lemon... delicious, creative donuts, beautiful cakes and cupcakes, anything oreo gets devoured in our house. I love getting a bagel sandwich for lunch. Their dedication and passion and positive attitude is contagious. You should check them out!

Wonderful vegan gem. GF and Dairy free desserts, coffee and fresh baked bread. Absolutely delicious warm fresh baked vegan bread! The best! Order ahead for pickup. Delightful family business and baked goods. Lots of street parking and parking lot. Steps away from lake.

I just moved nearby and it’s impossible to stay away from this incredible place! My Mum went in first and brought an assortment of treats, and we went back soon after and had the best bagels my partner and I have ever had. All of the baked goods are to die for and as someone who can’t have gluten it’s so amazing to be able to enjoy decadent treats again. Bagels, lemon bars, brownies, cupcakes, butter tart squares - it’s all amazing! Stop here whether you have dietary restrictions or not, but especially if you are gluten or dairy free!

Okay... even if you are NOT gluten free etc.... go and get your num num on! This place is fantastic!!!!!!!!!! The cupcakes - last week I had a strawberry, and a lemon cupcake... I meant for one to be eaten in a couple of days but I couldn't help myself! GONE! lol .... the texture of the cake is soft, smooth and moist. The smell and flavour of the cakes were delicate but still present without leaving an aftertaste. The icing is decadent, silky and thick but not overwhelming and there was a lot of it and for me that was a + b/c I LOVE icing. The lemon cupcake is my absolute favourite (I LOVE LEMON) and I have to control myself not to go back and get and eat a dozen more. Their pizza buns are savory and soft. The bun feels heavy in your hands but is not dense, gritty or crumbly like some gluten free buns are. It wasn't soggy either! And to put a cherry on top - the staff are welcoming and kind and so are the café goers. GO and show this little bakery your support because you will not be disappointed. I wish I had pictures to show you all but I ate my treats too fast.

I honestly can't say enough good things about this cute little bakery that is set to expand into a Tea Room too. The staff are warm, welcoming and very helpful, I'm sure when covid restrictions allow it all the tables will be filled.We tested out the lemon bar, chocolate orange brownie and the fruit barThe fruit bar is described, by my non GF, non plant based, husband as out of this world.We were lucky enough to grab one of the last flat breads and it was honestly one of the best things I've eaten in years.We enjoyed our visit so much we went back the next day and are already planning a return trip later this week.
