This very friendly and Tudor-style decorated pub is a neighborhood focused facility with no reservations…so there is usually a waiting period but this can be done on the spacious grounds..there is a collegial feeling throughout this building’s atmosphere…great food..

A wonderful Olde English Pub, transplanted to the beautiful West Coast of Canada! Excellent, traditional pub fare, local high quality craft beers, and knowledgeable, friendly service who go that extra bit (Kudos to our server Becca!).

One of my favourite places to eat. Service is great, food is tasty, and the atmosphere is magnificent.My only complaint is that I feel the food quality has gone down a bit in the last few years.

This is the true essence of an old English pub. We arrived on a dark and foggy night so we did not get to enjoy the gardens, but I have been told they’re quite lovely. The interior decor is very warm and welcoming, the staff is very nice. The food was tasty but not quite what I expected and based on other reviews and pictures it looks like they’ve cut back a bit on ingredients. I had the scotch eggs and it was quite different than previous guest’s pictures posted. It was just okay. If they could ramp up the quality of the food, this would definitely be a five star.

Located off the beaten path but in the most picturesque setting with shaded tables set on the patio amidst so many beautiful flowers both in pots and in dividers separating the tables. Beyond the patio, there was a beautiful flower garden and rose archway set on a lawn area with some towering trees. I kept looking for the golf course…as it was so well groomed.We had a little ten minute wait for a patio table on a Tuesday around 12:30. The service was quick, the beer cold and food delivered in a reasonable time. The Crow and Gate pub has been located there for years and offers British pub style dining. I had the shrimp sandwich…shrimp mixed with a little fake crab, but it was good. Others enjoyed the Falafal wrap, and seafood cakes. They were good.All in all, I’d return for the quiet setting and beautiful flower decorated patio for a nice afternoon lunch or dinner where you never felt rushed. A great place to catch up with an old friend. The parking was good. My cousin got around pretty well with a walker. I’d return.

Found this glorious gem quite by chance when I Googled 'restaurants near' the charging station I was using for my EV! Having been to some ancient English pubs I was delighted as I took the turn and headed up the laneway to this beautiful old place with a lovely atmosphere and even better food. The pie and seafood cakes were only outshone by the sticky toffee pudding! They had local Iota brews on tap which was a first for me too! It will be a special place to pop into when we are back up that way!

A true hidden gem of Vancouver island. The inside looks like a real authentic English pub. You can tell it would be really cosy on a colder day. Since the weather was beautiful we opted to sit in the beautiful garden patio. The smoked salmon chowder was filling, fresh and delicious. Loved seeing vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. Can't wait to return. Note, it is a 19+ pub - not for families.

So... this one was an incredible surprise! I had to switch lunch plans near Nanaimo Airport, and the Crow & Gate appeared!I can't imagine anyone accidentally finding this place, because it is waaay off the beaten track! But wow... what a spot!First off, the property is immaculate and beautifully landscaped. The pub is literally on the grounds of what appears to be the owner's home.I would say this is the most authentic English pub I have been to on Vancouver Island.Our server, Becca, was excellent and very friendly. We were fortunate to sit outside, which was a real treat.The food was very good, especially for pub fare. Our group had the beef dip, pan fried oysters and the Crow burger... all fantastic!I'm already planning on bringing my British wife here this weekend.Well worth the short-ish drive from the highway. You won't be disappointed!

Very quaint pub that’s worth the drive in a beautiful setting. Menu was substantial with something for everyone. We enjoyed the Beef Dip and Roast Beef Sandwich, pictured below. 19+ only so not suitable for kids. Had a lovely fire going on a cold winters day!
