Spirit Rock Walking Trail

This is short trail with an excellent views. I really like it on the fall.

A short flat trail to the end of the point that makes the Grand Beach ‘bay’ off Lake Winnipeg. OK views with only one interpretive stop. If you look around though you can find the remnants of old cottage foundations & other human involvement.Be very careful of all the poison ivy on the trail. Due to this I would not consider bringing a (leashed) pet.

It’s a short trail (about 1 km), but in July it’s the closest thing I’ve seen in Manitoba resembling a rainforest. Beautiful tall white ash trees with large boulders and red berry trees that seem to create their own humid micro-climate. Very green and lush. I’m extremely disappointed that the park cut out so much of this vegetation to build cottages and a boring “English” picnic park just on the south of it. It’s hard to understand the people that make such decisions and it’s just another sad example of the destruction of our most beautiful old growth forests, which conservation has a role to protect. Only a bit of forest left here. What a disaster...I hope you can appreciate this little forest for the gem that it is and help advocate for the rehabilitation of the picnic park just underneath to extend this wild habitat.
