Disgusting sad excuse for a mental health centre. I was waitlisted FOR A WHOLE YEAR while my mental health continued to decline. When it was finally my turn, I spoke to a social worker, then a psychiatrist FOR A ONE TIME CONSULT. Why tf does this hospital make it so that a struggling suicidal patient can only see the psychiatrist ONE TIME. They will prescribe and throw a medication at you and tell you to walk away. No one to monitor or see if the med is working. The psychiatrist I saw didn’t even fax my prescription to my doctor and I had to email this nasty royal like 10 times for a follow up. horrible excuse for a mental health facility.

This is life. It really isn’t anyone’s fault this situation is happening, but everyone, including the patient, the family, the system, the society, has a part in it for making the situation happen. In dire need of help, I have called Crisis line, many treatment facilities including the Royal, then 911, then a few other resources, including the ones paramedics gave me, and back to the Royal, to no avail. The RAAM program is the most accessible out of all contacts I have made. But the front door check-in staff and clinician lacks necessary understanding to help move things forward. I don’t blame them. I can see clearly that it really requires someone who has gone through the same/similar situation oneself to be able to possibly understand. Having heard about it or seeing it happening to others isn’t enough. And here lies the problem. An initial assessment session which only needs a total of 20-30 minutes ended up taking 5 days to finally complete with a social worker.Rapid access is accessible but isn’t really rapid…There are laws we have to abide to, but the law isn’t designed for complications. It’s a flawed system. An acquaintance of mine said “The 'system' although advertised as available to listen and help sometimes falls short of navigation strategy.”It is so so true. This is me writing my thoughts just after finally being able to complete the initial assessment, after days of going in loops. But this is only the first step to getting any potential help in another 7 days.I am reading other recent reviews… it’s not good. But what else can I do? I don’t have any other choice at this point. This is what it’s like in Canada… Yesterday’s news was a Nova Scotian woman who died after waiting 7 hours in ER…The positive takeaway from this whole situation at this point is the importance of early awareness, which is however only to be gained through experience i.e. something has already happened. An available friend with experience proves to be the most helpful link to get things moving… It’s also inspired me to be an advocate going forward.Fingers crossed for whatever may come.(Edited)Here is my reply to the reply of my review:AccessMHA was one of the first contacts I made…I signed up to book an appointment…filled out a questionnaire, one that’s pretty much the same as your intake form… that was Jan 9. I have an email confirmation to remind me of that…. Today is Jan 19. I haven’t heard anything from AccessMHA. No call, no voicemail, no email (i checked my spam box too).Do you see my point now?

Got me sober but other than that their so disorganized and don’t care about you. I went to the ASU like 3 weeks ago to detox, got off everything then got kicked to the curb with no support. I was referred to the TAY service for after detox and was told to go see them march 15th and they don’t even have my appointment anymore? This is the second time they’ve lost my referral I’m just so sick of this I just want help.

Again royal ottawa bullying their patients and their families and this time is with serious matter which is tampering with the patient’s test result and samples. It is not a strange issue with royal ottawa who we had several complaints about some of their bad doctors and staff. This time tampering with the patients test sample and results to keep the patients and their families under their supervision. This hospital need to be investigated. This is serious matter . To the person who replied to this review, your Jackie had done nothing except writing emails back to us, we feel the tension and the hate from your staff and some bad doctors. We previously had several complaints to many department in the hospital starting with the head of the nurses, client and family relations manager, Jackie or jacqueline desrochers up to the hospital head office or the management's office ending to the College of physicians and surgeons of ontario, several complaints, but with no use, all insisting not to show any respect and understanding of the serious suffering we are going through and no action or change of any wrong doing the hospital staff including some bad doctors had done. Dr. strike and her assistant dr. sandhu couldn't have enough lies about their patients, so they turn to the patient's parent and start lying and manipulating stories about them. Does that sound okay! dr. strike and her assistant dr. Sandhu bulling their patients by threating the patient to take higher dose of medications more than what they are taking three times and forcing them to accept them as their doctors using their positions and their connection, although the patients have been complaining about these bad doctors for several months. The doctors and the royal ottawa hospital not giving the patients the right to have their bad doctor changed. Doctor strike leave our sons and daughters alone and stop playing with the forms, please. First form one then form 2 then form 3. It is someone's life and someone's future you're playing with. These patints are human being that deserve to be treated with respect, they are victims themselves. Shame on you to force a patient that had complained about you everywhere and all what they wanted is to change you as their doctor and have another doctor that hopefully better human being than you.Royal Ottawa Mental Health nurses and staff stay away from harming our sons and daughters your bad treatments and attitudes causing the patient to suffer. Stop your hattered and discrimination and bad treatments causing the patients more pain and suffering.Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre denying their patients the right to change their bad doctor and forcing the patient to accept their manipulative doctor. A doctor that treat their patient with disrespect, intimidation and lies. This is a serious issue that effect the patient and increase their suffering. These bad doctors who cause the patient more pain and suffering should be account responsible fo their behavior. They even lie and create a fake story to destroy their patient and bring them back to the hospital to take advantage even more. Everyone has to be aware of what's some doctors at the royal Ottawa is doing. The Hospital administration forcing the patient to stay with bad doctors who caused these poor patients to suffer and ignor their continuous compliants.Very bad doctors. They take advantage of the patients, bullying and threatened those poor patients. These doctors use their connections to do all the bad to these patients. As our own experience harassment in the building , threat from the neighbors and in the area where we live . We are receiving numerous disturbing calls by the staff at the royal, harassing and bullying.

If I'm not eligible for a particular program why did you make me jump through hoops just to get told no? You had all the information beforehand, you knew that I wasn't eligible, yet sure make me waste several weeks of my life waiting for an intake appointment where I'll never be able satisfy the conditions necessary to obtain help. Keep up the great work.

Rigid schedule and rules, minimal entertainment, mostly bizarre people living there. The outpatient clinic for Schizophrenia has a fantastic Department Head: Dr. Alain Labelle. The food served is absolutely horrid and arguably worse than having schizophrenia in the first place.

Urgent treatment needed but still waiting on a referral from 2018. Family Doctor contacted them again last year regarding the referral and assured me that someone from The Royal would contact me by January 2022. I'm still waiting.I constantly see their messaging and social media talking about things like Awareness, Care and Empathy, and they spend a lot of money marketing how loving they are. But, they ignore screams for help, encourage hopelessness, and even tell people Don't call us. Don't even speak to us."And this is the best that Canada has to offer."

Literally genocides trans people. Right in the intake form even when they ask if your gender is “male, female, or ENBY.” Male and female aren’t genders. Just OD on the streets you’re safer there.

I’ve been sending in emails multiple times showing interest in becoming a participant in response to one of their brain imaging studies . Their looking for participants. No reply at all. How hard is it to check your email ?? Cmon. You want participants start acting like it.

We just brought in a woman who was wandering the streets in a very bad way and, although it is a Saturday and closed, the receptionist was wonderful and called for someone to come and assess her and even alerted security to be sure that she would remain for an assessment. I was so appreciative as I didn’t know if they could help and if not, what to do? My only other experiences with the hospital have been for lectures. Also so impressive. Thanks to the staff!!
