Barkwood Forest

Literally the most beautiful dig park I've EVER been to! And I've been to everything in Ottawa. I decided to venture out a bit and explored this place I saw on Google with great reviews. I didn't know that you have to pay a membership to come here until after the fact, it makes sense. Oops. If I lived closer I totally would become a member!

This is heaven on earth for dogs and dog owners. We adore taking our pup here. The community is very responsible and clean after their dogs and we love meeting new pups and humans alike on our walks. The membership is worth every single penny.

I’m so glad I found Barkwood. It is very safe for the dogs and enjoyable for the owners. There are several trails to explore and their mapping system is user friendly which made me feel more comfortable. They make sure all dogs have been screened for aggression and recall (doesn’t have to be perfect). The owners are responsible and responsive.

I have a weekend membership (~$50/mo for two dogs) and have been enjoying it so far. The trails are well kept and flat - great to bring your older friends and family or those with mobility issues (they must sign the Boogity waiver first).I've just joined this winter but I know there is a washing station. I look forward to that. I also look forward to taking them here instead of Shea Woods during muddy and spring season since it is maintained, I am sure it will be much cleaner and less poopy.Compared to Shea Woods, it is a much friendlier environment since the dog owners and their furbabies are there to socialize. I also appreciate the fact that you must do an orientation with one of the trainers to see if your dogs are friendly enough and are ok with recall. I have shar peis and aren't the friendliest breed. They are often misunderstood by their aloofness and rougher play, however, owners at Barkwood are comfortable with corrective snapping and non-aggressive growling that they and their dogs aren't bothered too much by their interactions with my dogs.I decided to join after each of my dogs got bit by dogs that just didn't get along with mine at Shea Woods. The interactions at Shea Woods are a hit or miss (80% positive though).Upon joining, you are also invited to a private Facebook group. All members seem to be active and helpful by posting pictures of the status of the trails, lost items, and general pictures introducing their dog or showing them playing. There is also a lady that made Christmas ornaments for the dogs!The only downside are the entrance and exit gates. You have to stop right before it, get out to unlatch, and immediately close it upon driving through. It is only a slight inconvenience though.So far, everyone has been so nice. We're all there because we love our dogs so much to pay for a membership! Worth it!

Extremely clean. Great community. Lovely place where dogs can be dogs and we can all enjoy the walking trails and natural beauty of the forest. Trails aren't wheelchair or stroller friendly, which is nice to not feel overly manicured and sterile. Reports of wild animals seen! Reports or poison ivy as well in spring so something to plan for.This is a private park that requires a vetting process and monthly fees. So thrilled to have this park. Almost always run into a few dogs during our walks and he gets to run with the pack as we make our loops around.I've also used the dog walking and training services. Feedback was thoughtful and I could see a difference in how he handled responses from people other than me and how close he stayed on our walks. I love the pick up and drop off.

A beautiful forested park with maps and compost bins at every turn. All the dogs and people I've met are lovely as not just anyone can join this private dog park. Only thing is in the spring, it can get super wet and muddy however board walks have now been installed to help with this issue. On the positive side, there is a pond that forms for dogs who love the water. In the summer time, there is an issue of poison ivy, so if you are allergic I would not recommend a membership at that time.

This sure is a dog’s paradise! Barkwood forest has become a daily routine to let our dog Ace roam free in a safe environment! You can tell the owners take pride in creating safety measures, clear communication with members as well as the overall quality and conditions of the forest! We have always had such a great experience no matter the season! From Fall to Winter it has been such a highlight to get some fresh air and let our pup have loads of fun with other amazing dogs! His social and recall skills have improved immensely being able to meet so many different dogs and owners! We never have to worry about our dog at Barkwood he always leaves tuckered out and we are greatful to be apart of such an awesome community!

So happy I found this place! The trails are beautiful, the dogs and their owners are very friendly. Great place to give your pup some freedom to run and to make a few friends at the same time :)

Love the Barkwood Forest. Really enjoy the terrain and conversation with all the other dog owners as well. They really have a good thing going here. Keep up the great work. Barkwood Forest dog park walks are always a highlight of my week for me too.
