Dr. Elaine Woo is awesome. Had to have cataract surgery on both eyes. I was very nervous but she put me at ease. She has many years of experience. The first eye and second eye went great. Was done at the Eye Institute and they were great. I would recommend Dr. Elaine Woo and the Eye Institute.

I was referred to Dr. Woo by the ER doctor at the hospital. Dr. Woo is kind, patient and very knowledgeable. She took the time to explain things to me and helped to ease my mind during a very scary time.

Dr Woo is knowledgeable, kind and caring. She performed my cataract surgeries and has seen me numerous times for other eye issues. She gives of her time willingly and answers questions thoroughly.

It was back in 6 years ago my Cataract surgery. She was skillful and fast with the surgery.

My husband saw Dr. Woo in her office for a pre-cataract surgery assessment. The staff were very polite and so was Dr. Woo. We didn't wait very long and the appointment was efficient and quick. Dr. Woo was very thorough and provided us with good advice about the surgery as well as some information sheets. She even offered to refer us to a colleague who was much closer to where we live, but we wanted to stick with Dr. Woo since she was referred by a doctor that we trust and she has excellent reviews. The cataracts were quite advanced, Dr. Woo advised. and so she made the appointment for surgery as soon as she could, also telling the office staff to also put my husband on the cancellation list for an earlier appointment if one came up.My husband has had much anxiety about his vision over the past couple of years, dealing with ongoing retina issues, his anxieties were relieved to feel in such capable hands as Dr. Woo.Here are some details that may help prospective cataract patients with this Doctor.The surgery is scheduled to take place at Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket.The wait for cataract surgery at the time of our appointment was 5 months.There are several appointments before and after surgery;* initial assessment*appointment to measure the lenses needed*surgery for the first eye (day surgery)*follow up appointments to check on progress, unsure how many but it probably depends on how well the patient is doing*surgery for second eye (if required)*follow up appointments for second eyeRecovery time depends on the patient, some heal better than others like all surgeries, but from what I have read it can be several weeks.All of the standard examinations and surgical procedures are covered by OHIP, however you do have the option to select different lenses and a different measuring procedure which is not covered by OHIP so if you choose these other options you will have to cover the cost yourself or if you have health insurance you could ask it they will cover it.The additional costs are not outrageous, I will not quote the individual fees because fees are subject to change over time, however at the time of our appointment the options that we selected totaled less than $600. It is up to you to decide if you want these options, not everyone does.Please note that in Aug 2022, the parking situation at this building is limited due to construction, and this can take some time so find a space. There is no street parking nearby. I ended up dropping my husband at the building and parking across the street at the hospital so that he wouldn't be late. It's a very busy parking lot at this building, so even without construction taking up some of the parking spaces, I would make sure you have plenty of time to find a parking solution.
