Mahkwa Lodge

This place is like no other. Don't expect fancy accommodations but they are clean and more than you will ever need for some time away from society to fish and relax. Food for dinner and breakfast is great. Favorite thing about the resort is to sit in the gazebo at 6am drinking coffee watching the sunrise. This place is the most beautiful place ever. Got evacuated here because of the fire (July 2021) and it is absolutely dry. It's the perfect place to send the people in your community who can't control themselves in Thunder Bay or any host community. It is a long way from Lac Seul by foot and also a gated community so no one goes in or out without clearance from security. The water and showers run great, electricity is powerful. The wifi could use some work so it's more entertaining for the guests tho, so I will have to zonk that. It is called a camp site, but it's like a small community. Also the water here is not good to drink, but they provide water if you're a evacuee, might have to stock up if you're here on your leisure.

Mahkwa has been a family fishing destination for over 20 years. They have everything you need to accommodate outdoor's men of every level. Fishing is good but the scenery is even better.

just got back from mahkwa lodge....i have been going to canada for 40 years and this was the best week of fishing ever!....75-100 walleye a day!breakfast and dinner was excellent...boats and motors were goodguides were not what i was used to...but did okcamp was nice...office staff were helpfulwe will be going back!! june of 2018

I did the American Plan. The docks and rental boats are excellent, along with the availability of minnows and ice. Cabins are clean and basic. Showers and faucets run lake water, so bring plenty of clean water. There is no coffee pots in the AP cabins, so if your crew drinks lots of coffee make sure to bring one as the dining hall doesn’t brew enough to allow people to fill a thermos or travel mug. The breakfast was decent but dinners were absolute slop. They pack a great shore lunch kit so eat well so you are not hungry for dinner. I would go back again, but skip the AP plan and bring my own food. The 1 mile stretch of road that leads to the resort is a horrible, pot-filled mess so you need to drive super-slow.

New manager has turned the place around. Still shabby cabins but they take care of you and they do what they say they will do.

If you want the best walleye fishing vacation of your life, goto Mahkwa. The scenery is absolutely amazing and it’s just a bonus to the fishing experience. The staff is A++++, we did the American plan and the food, rooms, service, rental boat were all top notch. I have nothing negative to say. Thank you Mahkwa for a life long memory.
