I attended on April 12, 2017, a training session organized by our head office Mortgage Architects in conjunction with Genworth Financial Canada at the beautiful conference theater of Genworth Canada in Oakville. Genworth has long been our business partner for years. They insure high-ratio mortgages (less than 20% down payment) as well as Business for Self (Alt. A) Program to allow business owners to use alternate means to justify an annual income, which should be reasonable based on the industry, length of operation and type of business. CMHC canceled their Business for Self Program several years ago.Further, Genworth insures conventional mortgages (more than 20% down payment) done by some non-bank or alternate lenders. Though the clients do not need to pay the insurance premium, those lenders do. Genworth assists those non-bank alternate lenders to do more mortgage business, and ends up with a win-win-win situation.

Avoid any mortgage that uses them if you plan on doing any greener home updates. They advertise they have a greener home rebate like CMHC does, but there's ridiculous conditions attached that make you ineligible for the rebate. If you utilize Canada's greener home loan, you can't get a rebate. Stick to CMHC insured mortgages instead. I'm losing out on a bunch of money by being stuck with this company.
