The atmosphere is nice, great presentation. More improvement on the taste of the food is needed. But I really enjoyed the Plantain chips and sauce. They also make a good Moscow mule! The goat stew wasn't so bad as well

Generally a good restaurant. However, I am an outsider with no African heritage. Therefore, I don't know what is good African food or not. However, as an outside I enjoyed the experience. My husband and I ordered the Kenyan Beef Curry and the BOEREWORS SAUSAGE. I've had the sausage once before home cooked by my South African friends. It was better at Mama Africa. Both dishes generally were good. The only reason I gave this a 4 star is the prices are quite high for the style of cuisine. Portion sizes are large and we had leftovers but I think they would attract more customers if their prices were more reasonable.

Had a wonderful dining experience at Mama Africa last night. The food, drinks and staff were all amazing. Both drinks I had were refreshing and very tasty. I enjoyed the spicy(be warned spicy is spicy) Suya beef as an appetizer and the Ghanian Waakye Bowl for a main. Both were booked perfectly and full of amazing and unique flavours I haven't tasted before. I will be coming back again. Thank you

The service was good and a nice atmosphere but ridiculously small portions for the price. The kuchambari had not parsley / celantro, instead they substituted with cabbage and the goat stew came in tomato paste with no meat, no spices, just 2 bones on rice. I had to show the hostess of which he tried hard but $38 later I had to go eat somewhere else.I couldn't help but overhear other tables dissatisfaction

Terrible, respectfully. I came down to Calgary for a friends birthday and we came here for dinner, so everyone tried different things; essentially we had a majority of the menu at our table. Not a single good comment on the food. The only thing I would call edible was the talapia. My dude how you doing Plantains so wrong. Yes the decor was cool, vibe was sick but it’s a restaurant not a viewing gallery. In terms of service we were there for literally 2 hours and 48 mins (yes I timed it, don’t @ me) and it wasnt short staffed, it was a Friday night the food just wasn’t coming. Finally got out of there and had to go to McDonald’s cause it was so late.Drinks were charging premium price for bottom shelf alcohol. What more can I say.

It’s the 5 slices of plantain for me! Honestly, for the amount I payed the portion of food was minimal. The goat stew I ordered the some of the pieces of meat were edible while others were unchewable. Lastly the tomato sauce was basically a tasteless tomato paste with a lack of seasoning whatsoever. As an African my expectations were pretty high to be fairly and I ended up being extremely disappointed. Like the previous person said in their comments there’s McDonald’s right across you could definitely check out.

Nice atmosphere. Nice servers. Good portion sizes. I wanted two items off the menu that they didn’t have. The coleslaw was fresh, good fries. The food was piping hot. It’s nice to try it out for something different. I wish they had a sampler platter so you could just try little bits of all the appetizers. Salt and pepper on the tables would be nice.

Worth checking out. We shared chicken wings - we liked them. Spicy sauce, whole wing, not the typical one part of it. Moist and juicy. I did note that some people would not find it appealing but hey, I eat street food, so anything unconventional appeals to me. The other dish was kinda goat stew and it was very flavourful. Some rice and sauces on the side. With two solid cocktails, the visit was good. On the pricier side but hey, restaurant business is hard right now. It was also great to see families there on a Friday night.

Lacked the flavour associated with African food. There was essentially no seasoning on anything leaving it mostly bland. The gizzard wad flavorless. The fried plantains were unripe so they were not sweet at all. The jollof had no seasoning. The goat stew was fine. Some drinks came in fancy glasses while others were basic. It was an odd mix. Would not recommend eating here if you're looking for authentic African food with flavour.

We were so excited to the food here, that we actually went over the menu an hour beforehand. Took an hour for our food to arrive, keep in mind only 1 person ordered a meal plate, myself and 1 other ordered appetizers and side dishes for our meals! Absolutely ridiculous for food and in a half full restaurant to take this long. We didn't order drinks as we came solely to eat dinner. Not sure how it got a new name and look and worse service. The jollof race's were bland and the pumpkin soup was sweet like a dessert, and the plantain chips were super salty.
