OneUp Fitness has allowed me to build strength and confidence after a major lower back injury. Even during the pandemic, we continue to meet virtually, and I’m still continuing to improve with weekly benefits of targeted exercise. Matt, is a fantastic trainer and coach, and provides detailed instructions and explanations relevant to each exercise. I’ve gone from worrying about picking up a bag of groceries to running around with my kids again.

The best investment I’ve ever made in taking care of myself has been to join One Up Fitness! For the last 2+ years I have been receiving one-on-one training from Matt and his excellent personal trainers and I have been expertly coached on every occasion! As a result, I am stronger, more fit and confident. And to top it off, I know that my continued investment in One Up Fitness is an investment in me and will assist me in maintaining strength during the aging process! I highly recommend this training to all!

Fantastic program! I work in the area as an engineer, and as a busy professional it has been extremely convenient to fit the half hour workouts into my work week. I'm able to get much more out of the workout in a short amount of time than I would on my own with a much longer workout. I came to OneUp Fitness after a lower back injury to get help safely performing strength training again. I had injured myself previously, but any attempts at strength training on my own was resulting in aggravation of the injury. The coaching I have had in workouts every week have provided me a safe environment to get stronger, and the confidence to do activities I had been missing out on post-injury. Would highly recommend.

The old adage, “Use it or lose it” is true: At 61, I know this first-hand. I’ve always been athletic, but often in fits and starts. We now know that science tells us that maintaining strength is key to vibrant aging – that we don’t get sick because we get old, but because we get weak. So when I moved to Nova Scotia last spring to be more active in the lives of my grandkids, I researched fitness options, looking to challenge myself in safe, efficient and enjoyable ways.I was familiar with the concept of high-intensity strength training – an approach that promises minimal time requirements while producing maximum results - but had never tried it. Matt and his OneUp Fitness team truly deliver on this promise.During my initial twice-weekly 30-minute sessions (that’s it!) I learned how to step up to the OneUp Fitness challenge - determine my current capabilities then push past them. One-on-one coaching spurs on my progress. My workouts are always safe and efficient. They became enjoyable after spending a couple of weeks acclimatizing my body to the effort required.I look forward to seeing where my OneUp Fitness journey takes me, a journey I encourage everyone to take. Together, we can blast through those ever-present, ridiculously-limiting stereotypes about aging!

ReviewI’m a female in my 50’s and have been going to various gyms most of my adult life. A few months ago I joined One Up Fitness on the advice of a friend. I am only able to go once a week but within just a few weeks I began to see a noticeable difference in my body shape and tone which is remarkable considering the short amount of time I’ve been going. This is a very different way of working out and in my opinion it is the most bang for my buck that I’ve ever gotten at a gym. My trainer Matt is very knowledgeable and professional and pushes me much harder than I would ever push myself. He always explains in detail how to perform each exercise and what muscles we are targeting. I would not be attending a big box gym right now due to the coronavirus but these private training sessions are perfect. If you’re looking for a unique gym experience with amazing results this is it.

I have been going to One Up for 5+years for strength training. About 18 months ago I stopped because I was told I was high risk for Osteoporosis and the Doctor told me to stop doing weights because I could fracture a bone. Instead I was put on a very strong drug that made me ill and I was told I’d be on it for 5 years. But good news! The hospital bone density test was wrong. They expunged my record. Always get a second opinion!I was told to get off the meds and to resume “light weights”. That’s when Matt and Mike explained to me that weight training is the very best thing for bone density.I’m happy to say that I’m back at it and I have never had a fracture in my life.

StrengthConfidencePerformanceI’ve had the pleasure of training and being coached by the owner, Matt. The focus and excellence in coaching me to get out of my comfort zone, to push myself farther than I could have imagined myself to do is what I believe differentiates OneUp from a typical gym experience.Three months later I am definitely stronger. That is evident in carrying out everyday activities, in my physical appearance and how clothes fit. That’s been the most exciting changes I’ve seen and others have told me they see.My confidence performing on the exercise machines has significantly improved such that I can achieve muscular failure in one set. The literature is abundant about the benefits this can bring.The entire team at OneUp all seem to have one goal. Get their clients stronger performing exercises in a safe manner with a time commitment of less than an hour a week.In my experience they have exceeded my expectations of what strength training is and the results I can achieve.Call them and try it out. It’s challenging. It’s hard work. And it’s life changing!

And the results - I am amazed at how much increased strength and stamina I've developed from my 20-minute session twice a week.

Matt is an excellent trainer. I have been strength training with him for over a decade now. I have never suffered an injury while training and continue to build strength and resilience despite significant physical injury from the past.
