Whitby Abbey
Very nice place, well kept and clean, a little hard to reach if walking, but can be driven up to, excellent walking around, has a small shop with various novelty items, £16 per person entry to the Abbey proper and the museum.Still made a nice day out.

Whitby Abbey
Beautiful, and a must-see if in Whitby. The one downside is the cost. Whilst appreciating its a National Heritage site, charging £16 per adult is too steep in my opinion. Make it around £8-£10 and you'll attract significantly more people.Cracking views from the area, and the neighbouring church is worth a visit too.Conquer the 199 steps, too, and feels even more of a worthwhile visit as well

Whitby Abbey
This big sprawling Abbey is well worth a visit, there are information plaques dotted about. There are ramped areas to give disabled wheelchair access, too. The Abbey's upkeep is by the English Heritage. All the staff at the museum are very knowledgeable. There is a gift shop and tearooms. The Whitby tour bus goes up to the entrance every 30 minutes on average. There are a few large carparks with areas for disabled although it is run by the Scarborough Borough Council, not the English Heritage, so no free parking for members.

Fantastic place to visit. The grounds and the abbey are wonderful to walk around, and the museum is very interesting. The staff are friendly and helpful, special thanks to Sally who pointed us in the direction of a stunning angle to photography the abbey from. Highly recommend a visit.

Whitby Abbey
An ancient Abbey in its ruins. It is located on a hill top. You can drive there as well as walk from the city centre. If you walk, then be ready to climb the hill. You need to pay for tickets if you want to go in, else you can see it from outside.

Whitby Abbey
We visited on a lovely sunny day and it was easy to see how majestic the old monastery must have been, so on a gloomy and stormy day this place must be so atmospheric. Seen from miles around, the classic way up is via the 199 steps from the old town below, passing St Mary's church (don't miss going in here, either!) English Heritage have plenty of excellent information in the adjoining museum as well as making the visitor experience of the Abbey itself well worth it. Stonking views over the town and river below from the top. Not to be missed.

It's the view from inside and far away outside are both equally outstanding. And being able to walk inside the tidied-up ruins is also a great feeling. Almost half of the walls don't exist anymore, still, you can have the feeling of how it was like a few hundred years ago being in it.

Lovely place to visit. Fantastic views! However, avoid the bad weather that would make it a bit disappointing, so plan your trip carefully. But it's worth visiting, anyway!
