Kirin Seafood Restaurant (Starlight)
We walked into the restaurant today at 11:15am and requested a table for 4. The hostess asked if we had a reservation and we said that we did not. Before we could finish our conversation, the hostess immediately cut us off and spoke to another party that had entered behind us. At this point we indicated that we still had some questions and would appreciate if she finished with us first. The hostess then told us that it would be a 90 minute wait for a table. At that point we turned around and left telling her no thank you.I have no issue with the fact that no tables were available. I do take issue with the rude and dismissive attitude of the hostess who did not have the common courtesy to finish our conversation. As an aside I will mention that we did converse with the hostess in English. The party behind us addressed her in Chinese. Did that have any bearing on the attitude of the hostess? I do not know for a fact but do have my opinions about it.I have eaten at this restaurant a number of times but will not return. There are too many other good Chinese restaurants in the metro Vancouver area.

Terrible experience from the hostess! “Don’t come in if you didn’t make reservations ahead!”could be concluded the whole conversation with the hostess with rudeness, arrogant and disrespectful attitude. Why don’t you put a large statement of “Reservation only” in the front door if you are not interested in serving walk-in guests?I understand most of the Chinese restaurants are easily full in Vancouver and reservations beforehand is recommended. I had been a lot of those but none of them had cut you off unpleasantly and had me felt unwelcoming. At last the hostess told to me book ahead next time - Never! Thanks!

Food and service was great. Wasn’t busy when we went on a Tuesday maybe due to the snow so it was great as we had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Really need to book ahead as we wanted to eat on the weekend but fully booked and couldn’t get a reso so settled on my actually birthday day which worked out great. Waiters were attentive changing plates frequently and even came in on the birthday singing and helped our family take pictures. Haven’t been for a while but we think the food tastes better now than in the past. Everything was tasty but the beef vermicelli could have had more seasoning. Lobster was great and so was the fried fish, shrimp and rice. Beans was great and so was the baked salted chicken which had to be ordered ahead. Loved the sauce that goes with that dish! Hot and sour soup was good but will go back to crab and fish maw next time as it’s a more sophisticated dish and adds more complexity to the flavours. Desert was great also as it wasn’t the usual red bean soup we don’t like. Great place for dinner and dim sum as well!

It's been maybe a year or two since last here. Service is very decent.Parking was busy on the upper parkade but still could still get a spot.Service can be a little slow but friendly when you are talking to them. The food is still very delicious. Since a friend lives near here, this will always be a dim sum option for us!

Kirin has been a staple of Chinese fine dining in Vancouver over the years and they still prove why they are one of the best in the business.Despite the age of all of their locations, they consistently maintain and update their interiors to make sure they are in top shape. They also consistently update their menus to keep up with trends while maintaining some of the classics dishes that people know and love. They are still one of the busiest Chinese restaurants out there so make sure you get a reservation. They usually do a 5pm dinner seating and one at 7:30pm, so if you’re looking for something in between, there’s a chance they will be working on transitioning other tables so a slight wait could occur. They also offer their take home and make dim sum now. I haven’t tried it, so I can’t speak to it.The quality of food is top notch. Everything is delicious. Their service also matches their food. Their set menus also offer decent value if you aren’t sure what you’d order a la carte.

When we came into this restaurant at 11:15 am without a reservation, the lady at the front limited our time at a table for one hour. She was very arrogant and rude. Instead of the 18% tip we gave we should have give them 0% tip.It took about 30 minutes to flag someone to take our order. Hence, it was difficult to eat within the one hour limit she gave us since it took a good 15 to 30 minutes to get all the food to the table. It is really difficult to eat when the person at the reservation desk complains to the server that we stayed over the one hour limit she set for us to try eat and enjoy our food. The reservation desk lady kept giving us a bad attitude by making us feel rushed during our meal. There were four empty table with no one sitting in them.We stayed over the hour limit since we had difficulty with services. This place was short staffed. This restaurant needs a more efficient way for ordering and paying by customers. It would be nice if you could book a reservation and order online food to be enjoyed at the restaurant while you are sitting for service at your table. This would improve the efficiency of the waiting and service for customers. On top of that, our cups and dishes were really dirty that we had to rinse them with hot tea to get them clean.Overall, I can’t recommend this place if there is a time limit for customers to sit and eat with very little time to enjoy their meal.

A little bit of waiting time but the food was fresh and delicious. Price was a little on the higher side but definitely great place to go with family and friend.

I brought a couple of out of town friends here based on a friend’s recommendation. If you’re looking for the same old, same old dim sum dishes, you won’t find it here. Our hopes were set high for the sesame seed deep fried balls and the deep fried ‘footballs’, and were majorly disappointed. The prices were reasonable based on the quality. The dim sum menu had 50 items which is small compared to many other dim sum places. Our favourites were Deep Fried Halibut in Premium Soy Sauce; Steamed Scallop & Pureed Truffle Rice Roll; Steamed Prawn, Pork, & Enoki Mushroom Bean Curd Roll; Pork & Chinese Mushroom Pastry topped w/Abalone; Egg Custard Tart & Deep Fried Egg Chip w/syrup. Checkout the photos as you’ll be drooling. Everything was tasty. Service was good and efficient. The server was good in making suggestions. A good selection of ramen, fried rice, and noodle dishes which we passed on.There’s plenty of free parking near the restaurant. Only steps away from the Starlight Casino. We were able to make reservations. Nice ambience.

Pardon my half eaten dishes LOL we were all so hungry. Dim sum was decent and we were satisfied. Service was a little bit unusual especially if you don't speak Chinese...but overall friendly. Prices were a bit high for some of the portion sizes and the menu items are a bit different than typical dim sum places.Food: 7/10Experience: 7/10Service: 6/10Value: 5/10

I prefer this location rather than Richmond one. Lots of parking and the tables are fairly spaced out. We usually order everything with less salt and no additional MSG. You have to call at least 1 day before to pre-order this dessert but you must try the baked Tapioca pudding. We got it with the black Sesame filling and it was fantastic. You can tell that they used quite a good amount of sesame seeds to make the filling.
