Hughes House Bed & Breakfast

This past summer my partners grandparents came to visit us. Feeling a bit humble about the lack of room in our home we recommended the Hughes House, which is operated by our friendly neighbour Kelly. We had seen his lovely old character rooms when we were invited to one of his community potlucks, and we thought it would be a very comfortable place for them to stay. Of course their visit coincided exactly with the Calgary Stampede and there wasn't a bed available in town, let alone the downtown core where we live. When our grandparents contacted Kelly he was totally booked, but when he heard that they were our grandparents coming for a rare visit, he decided he would put together his auxiliary room despite how hectic things were. When we went to go greet them, we found them sitting on the porch with Kelly laughing over a glass of wine.We are so grateful for our neighbour Kelly. Not only does he operate of wonderful Bed & Breakfast, but he is a good man and a great neighbour. Every community should have a Kelly!

What more can one say other than I felt like I was at home" except for the meals: they were much better than mine! The breakfast was so healthy and tasty with a variety of oatmeals and fruit each day and some Canadian specialities. The first night there

They say in life you get what you pay for and for the price we didn't have very high expectations, but we didn't expect to be served hot oatmeal every day with a little sliced fruit and coffee. When we asked to have the oatmeal removed from the breakfast menu we received only a reheated muffin or croissant, sliced fruit and coffee. Our room was a work in progress as well as the main stairwell. We also had to complain about piano playing at night. Although we had paid for 6 nights, we were told that we had to leave a day early. Other tenants received the same treatment. Fortunately we had emails to support our claim. Last but not least were the strange noises late in the evening or early in the morning. I ca not wholeheartedly recommend this B&B especially the breakfast.

I have been staying at the Hughes House B&B for over 6 years. Kelly and his dog are wonderful hosts who go above and beyond the traditional B&B experience with glasses of wine in the evening, occasional evening dinners, and excellent piano playing. The 100 year old house provides a home away from home experience when I'm in Calgary on business.

Left us alone, offered assistance when needed. Most comfy bed ever. Awesome bathroom with tub overlooking balcony. Seperate kitchen. Close to all the things. Love it.

We are so glad we found this place in 2007. We keep coming back ever since, if we need a place to stay in Calgary. You can count on very clean rooms, great location and a fantastic host. It is always so pleasant to spend time with Kelly at his B&B, meet other people and share meals and stories. This is our home away from home! We look forward to our next stay. I've been in Calgary on business many times, and this time around decided to try a B&B. I was not disappointed with the experience. The house itself is a big beautiful Edwardian home with some really great details like heated floors in the bathrooms. The owner, Kelly, is a top notch gentleman - quick with recommendations on great places to go and always greeting us with a smile and sometimes even a song on the gorgeous piano in the living room. For those who, like me, get a little homesick for their pets, there's even a sweet little canine companion called Blanco. Make sure you scratch his ears for me (Blanco's, not Kelly's). I will definitely be making Hughes House my #1 choice when I stay in Calgary.

My first and best stop in Calgary. Kelly's House was the perfect stop for me after leaving my family to seek new adventures in Calgary. My void was instantly filled staying here. Warm, friendly, interactive and everything one needs away from home. I am still in touch with some of the people I met at Kelly's House.I do not call it a Bed and Breakfast but my favourite uncle's place. Kelly rocks!

Great place to stay, the house is beautiful and has character. The owner is very personable and treats you like family!
