A bit disturbing to be honest. The recruiter I dealt with last year asked repeatedly about talking to my current employer to get a reference, while I was still working there. I told her my boss didn't know I was searching elsewhere and gave her another reference within the company. While speaking to that reference she asked if she could speak to my employer, behind my back and against my wishes. I could have lost my job at that moment if my reference hadn't had the foresight to tell her no, she didn't have permission to do so. I've never had a recruiter push so hard to speak to a current boss, this disturbed me greatly. They also send you a document to sign giving them permission to call anyone and everyone you've ever worked for. While I have no issues with that, it would be a lot of work to call each job and ask permission to give their name and number as a reference, and to go back 10 years or so...seemed a bit much.While she was great and ultimately got me a job offer, (which I declined, I received a once in a lifetime offer to gain a promotion elsewhere) I just felt uncomfortable and pushed around.
