Il Covo
Their three-course menu ($55) started with a plate of hot focaccia buns, which had a lovely crispy exterior and soft fluffy centre. Salty and slightly oily, if you’re a lover of Jack Astor’s pan bread, Il Covo’s elevated version is delicious even without all the garlic and parmesan. In true Italian fashion, our first course was a rigatoni con ragu where fat tubular pasta was swimming in a meaty Bolognese made with pork, beef, and chicken. The pasta was al dente, the sauce hearty and not overly acidic, and the light shreds of cow’s milk cheese adding a touch of creaminess. It’s a pasta that would make any nonna happy. My body was craving iron that evening so I continued with the tagliata di manzo. Our server didn’t even bother asking how we’d like the steak prepared, instead the seared flat iron steak arrives a perfect medium rare. Thankfully, the plain dinner knife they provided was sharp enough to cut through the tender beef.Given the main contained no starch, I did find the greens – a mix of pickled leeks, watercress, and mushrooms – too salty as a side. Especially when the brown butter jus was already fairly seasoned as well. It’s a shame there wasn’t even a couple of wedges of roasted potatoes, it would really help balance out all the strong flavours. Not wanting to risk a sleepless night, I opted out of the afragato for dessert and went with the aranciata sorbetti instead. Sorbet isn’t overly exciting, but I liked that Il Covo’s version wasn’t too tart, and the addition of mint and Prosecco gave the orange sorbet a bit of interest.

Small space, big atmosphere. Loved our dinner at Il Covo. The din of conversations, the delicious dishes, and the mocktails we had were all fantastic. Great service too!

We visited Il Covo for Valentine's dinner and they were busy. They had a set menu for Valentine's, and everything on the menu was delicious. My husband has recently switched to being a vegetarian, so it is sometimes hard for him. But all their vegetarian dishes were also really good. The server was very sweet and made sure she addressed our 9-year old son if he was liking the food after every course.I ordered a drink that I didn't like (did you personal taste preference) and the server got the bartender to come chat with me. Bartender whipped up a drink which was delicious. Thanks for the great experience.

If I could give this restaurant 12 out of 5 stars, I would. The food was great and the service was absolutely exceptional. The staff was super friendly and accommodating, and it turns out George, the manager / head bartender, has his own gin label and made us incredible drinks using his gin. Amazing experience overall, highly recommend.

Came here for their valentines menu … long story short: DISASTROUS.Spent $400+ (the tasting menu was $125 per person) on food that was bland and service that was subpar. Given that they charged $125 per person you’d expect the food to at least be decent, but we were let down, menu was below average, it felt like I was at a chain restaurant. I hope they’d invest in their menu the same way they’d do in their ambiance. Very disappointed, won’t be back. Don’t know how this place is still standing, especially when there’s a lot of good Italian places in the city.

Upscale Italian done well. The prices are high but not extortionate, especially for the neighbourhood. We started with the baccala (salt cod whipped and fried like an arancini) which everyone loved. My partner had the gnocchi (very small and delicate) in a delicious ragu sauce. I had the braciola di maiale, a maple glazed pork chop on a vegetable I didn’t recognize. The temperature was perfect, my all time favourite pork chop. Be warned that some of the dishes had very small serving sizes, but I left full. I wish I had gotten to try the bread, which I saw others having and looked excellent. Overall a great experience in a beautiful dining room, would highly recommend.

My mom and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night. The reservation was for 6:15pm, the restaurant was pretty quiet at that time. Only one table of two and a couple seated at the bar. The host was very welcoming and directed us to our table. The interior of the restaurant is very nice, love the ambiance and colour scheme. The server was attentive and went over the tasting menu as well as the specials for the evening. We had decided to go order off the current menu. To start we got the antipasto for two which came with three different types of meat, burrata cheese, olives and pickled veggies (zucchini, carrot, pepper and onions). The bread is made fresh in house and tasted delicious, very fresh and soft. For drinks, I opted for the Gentle Rain and the Espresso Martini. For the mains, we got the Risotto Al Funghi and the Polipo Alla Griglia. All three dishes were exceptional and we had a really great evening here. We will definitely be coming back soon.

We went out on a date here and overall the ambience is very romantic and cute. the food is also delicious, although smaller portions compared to the price. they took our coats before seating us which i appreciated. were two broke 20 year olds so from the beginning our server was cold but they warmed up to us a little bit by the end. overall it was a good experience for one night but nothing crazy.

I had my birthday party here and it was absolutely amazing! The private dining room is beautiful, and so is the ambiance. The food was amazing. The deserts could’ve been better though! Our waitress was absolutely wonderful. Would recommend for an event or a night out!
