Dr. Mary VanDerPorten is one of the most skilled, capable and compassionate vets I have ever found. Thank you for your care of our canine family members.

Get’m in get’m out. It’s a business. If your looking for that gentle touch with your pet look elsewhere.UPDATESecond visit and immediately entering the building I’m spoken to rudely because I didn’t make an appointment, Sorry, but I had a pet emergency…that is part of your job no? We were told before ever coming to this facility by locals that they have a real problem with compassion and it couldn’t be more true, unfortunately. Will not be returning. Staff needs serious care and compassion training. I’ve been to many vets in many different cities over the years and none have been this cold. Good luck to you all in future.

I've taken my pet in twice. Very professional and caring staff. Knowledgeable and happy to answer all of my questions. My pup loves being there! Also, I thought she swallowed a large antler and phoned them and went over my options and decided to wait, and unprompted they called back the next day to see how she was doing....super sweet! For anybody wondering...she didn't actually swallow the antler, just knocked it under the fridge, but I couldn't find the darn thing at the time, so I could only come to the first conclusion!I enjoy learning something every time I come in. Thank you!

Great caring staff. We did not have a vet and had difficulty finding one close that would help, let alone take a new patient. We live in Trail and had to travel to Nelson to get tx for our cat. Lovely ladies, our cat adores you as do we. Thanks for your care, time and patience with us. Monkey was so relaxed and confident in all your poking and prodding. Had no issues getting in, they offered help over the phone, got us in quickly and now Monkey has her own doctor! Thank you

We had been taking our senior dog, Brutus, here after we moved. The vet who we saw was very good and gave us informed options. When it came time to let our sweet boy cross the Rainbow Bridge, the staff and vet were absolutely amazing. It was the hardest thing we have done but everyone was so respectful and compassionate it made the process easier. The last moments we spent with our prince were peaceful and full of love. All of the staff were so kind and considerate. And today we received a card from them. I just want to say Thank you for making a very difficult time better.

They were very good with my dog who can be difficult when he came in for his neuter. They were even better when we came back a few weeks later for a unexpected emergency surgery and stitches. Got us in right away and taken care of. Very caring and genuine. Dr. Maybank is awesome! Bear is happy to be all healed up and adventuring again.

Very kind and thorough, we really appreciated the time and attention to our elderly pooch. Lots of helpful advice, no pressure to take on extraordinary tests. If we lived in Nelson we’d be happy for Selkirk to be our regular vet clinic.

I had a last minute emergency and needed to take my Boston Terrier to the vet at 9pm and Dr. Gentry was INCREDIBLE! She went above and beyond for my dog. We didn’t exactly know what he had gotten into but she was so thorough, professional and also compassionate and understanding. She even followed up the next day calling me to make sure my dog was feeling better. I am so grateful to have had her in the state my dog was in, otherwise I’m not sure if he would have made it!

I had an appointment today in the afternoon. They phoned the day before to make sure I would be there on time. I arrived five minutes earlier, only to find out that the vet I had, just got in with another customer. They suggested I took my dog for a ten minutes walk. I took her for 20 minutes. When I came back they said well actually it will take another 20 minutes". I was unable to wait that long. (40 minutes of waiting for an appointment that was schedule...) I work outside of town and to be able to have this appointment
