Fort Livingstone National Historic Site

Worth the drive in May to see the snake pit!

Beautiful!

We were doing some geocaching when we came across this piece of history. Very interesting!

We went in May during the snake mating season and it was incredible! You can walk right in among the snakes -- but be polite and don't disturb them too much!!! There were hundreds or thousands of them, including some huge balls that were like a living carpet. There were a couple of short hikes with nice views, one with a picnic table. There are washrooms and a bear-safe garbage bin. The historical monument and sign were cool, too!Some things to know:- Don't drive all the way to the end. It gets very difficult to turn around. Pull off at one of the grassy areas and explore. You can always walk further in!- There isn't really a sign showing where to go to see the snakes. It was the last path on the right before going into the woods. If you see the sign saying not to disturb the snakes, you're on the right track! It did make sense on the map -- except the map makes it seem like it's right at the end of the road, but it isn't!

Very interesting, so glad to see history acknowledged!

This is a nice place to visit. We also went to the snake den and that is awesome. The only bad part was the ticks
