This place is awesome! The members are friendly and helpful. There are social events, club racing (if you're into that), and group events. There is a good member mix of sail, power and paddlecraft. It is a self-help" type of club where members must contribute work hours (currently 20 hours a year) for general betterment and cost reduction. Jobs include lawn cutting

Nice beautiful place to visit. This is a stunning park with nice multi-use paths, perfect for long walks or easy going bicycle rides to enjoy the nature around you. There is ample room for picnics with the family, although no campfires or alcohol are allowed. There is a bathroom facility in the park, as well as access to some beach areas of the lake. I'm not sure if swimming is permitted or not, but there were life-saving-buoys at certain areas. The water looked clear, and my cousins and I skipped stones at the beach openings. We didn't see any fish here, but there were a few people attempting to fish, and telling stories of big fish they caught in the area.We saw plenty of geese walking and swimming enjoying the day just as we were. We also saw a lone deer as we made our way closer to the bluffs. If you're looking for a great place to walk and enjoy nature, this will definitely be one my list. We visited during the weekday, so it was not too busy. It might be busier on the weekend, as it is a very beautiful area.

Nice folks, great location and excellent sailing courses. I highly recommend this club if you ever thought about learning to sail. The staff really care and all have a passion for sailing which you can see right away.

As a female learning to sail for the first time I was incredibly uncomfortable with ongoing sexist comments from a couple of the leaders. Repeatedly watched as one made fun of the vulnerable and more anxious learners rather than encouraging them in a new sport creating a comptetitive learning environment that does not foster healthy learning. After falling out of boat my second class and sustaining injuries no incident report was initiated. Upon making a phone call I was informed that it is standard practice to do one. I later approached Doug Sanderson (Commodore of Board of Directors) who then half heartedly and with misogynistic insult in hand did one. I never did receive the official copy promised. Also SBSC never did insure that some learners inebriated did not pair up. When I mentioned to Michael Schubert after first class that my partner was inebriated he assured me that this man was no longer in our learning group. The very next week that man was paired with someone else and again the week after. Perhaps there was some miscommunication? Inebriated or Not inebriated. Black and white for sailing!Would not recommend this facility to new or vulnerable learners.Be encouraged by the numerous schools that adhere to high standards of practice and learning for all. My journey has just begun, never forfeited by unprofessionalism of a few.Cathedral Bluffs and Ashbridges Bay (sailing school) are stellar! Please find updated response to SBSC response below.*********************************************Further Notes in response to Doug S.As a professional teacher and a Supervisor of 30 years I take careful thought to any public comments that I make. I equally do my research before any statement so I am fair and thorough as every review is a chance for improvement in business practices. As you are aware I never applied officially or unofficially with SBSC. What I did do was visit to borrow a sailing book from Rick and further inquire about your school policies which included membership. I came to make sure my views were thorough and well understood before a public comment was made. I would never pursue membership being made to feel this way or observing what I did. Why would I? Why would anyone?Indeed we all know that liquor runs rampid both prior and after sailing classes. My first self proclaimed classmate/partner made that very clear! He had a few drinks before our first class! Found out on waters.Perhaps having a breathalyzer/alcohol check would be a healthy mandate/policy for all new and old participants prior to sailing for everyone's safety? Please note this does not include the celebratory champagne provided by SBSC upon our graduation in small plastic glasses and vast amount of Heineken bottles afterwards. These were my observations made throughout all lessons. In regards to female instructors. In the last few years you have had only one paid male instructor during that time. Never were there females on my time although I understand from other members that past female instructors were vastly more qualified and professional than Michael." These are not my words but inquiry with other members and a staff of SBSC.All being said Michael along with all Executives should be encouraged to develop further ethics and professionalism above and beyond the technical aspect of sailing as this is equally important for any business practices.Transparency and finding ways to not take ownership for your own issues is further saddening. I believe some external management expertise might help but that might require some further cost and time on your part as volunteers? Not sure? Might be a good investment?Wishing your young and older continued success!Have a prosperous and "sober" time at Scarborough Bluffs!"

Had a free trial for sailing. Came with a BBQ lunch. We got to try steering the sailboat and pull strings. Beautiful location, however, there are many flies near the edge of the water. That is to be expected anyway. Friendly sailors.

My response to the Jackie C. review..Online reviews are always a chance to improve interaction with students, members, and visitors. At Scarborough Bluffs Sailing School we always read and evaluate each review. We agree with the initial response from our previous Sailing School director that we are sorry that Jackie felt that she needed to write this negative review. On evaluation, the review did contain errors and omissions. Our past sailing school director was a young woman and past Sailing School graduate. The last two head instructors were also young women and very good sailing instructors. SBSC encourages women in sailing and promotes student diversity. We do not allow alcohol on the water and do not have any serving facilities at our Club. Most students choose to drive to our Club and do not drink and drive. The recent review advises that Cathedral Bluffs Y C and ABYC are adult Sailing Schools to consider. This is partially correct as ABYC is a good Sailing School but CBYC has not operated a Sailing School since the early 1990's and has never run an adult Sailing School. Our student Jackie did not join our Club after Sailing School but did visit later. She decided to apply to be a member but was not accepted because at that time we were only taking applications from people with boats. Soon after a negative review appeared on line. SBSC is lucky to have 3 very experienced competitive sailors (all with over 30 years on the water) involved with the Sailing School management. SBSC is a member of Ontario Sailing and Sail Canada and is always up to date with Sailing School protocols. SBSC remains very popular, the Sailing School in 2022 was in a wait list situation for students and many joined the Club after attending the school. We will use the review to guide next year's operation and look forward to an excellent 2023 on the water off the Scarborough Bluffs.. Doug Sanderson SBSC
