Its Not a shelter. Its an all inclusive 3 star resort for the homeless. you get a safe supportive low pressure low expectation 3 meals a day scheduled snax private room(Men have to transition from a hostel like 11 bed communal room in basement which is very spacious even fun to stay at before possibly getting into a private room) . And all thats basically required is the common respect everyone hygiene careful about in suite paraphernalia and food communicate communicate communicate with staff if your going to miss appt or curfew and get your butt working towards your goals . If you have stayed at a few shelters over the years coming to Hyland House is like entering through the gates of Heaven.... Well thats a wild exaggeration but it is quite refreshing and I am so grateful. . They dont burden us too much and provide every resource(Im biting my tongue because not every aspect is praiseworthy but this is not the forum to grumble and whine especially when I am overwhelmingly grateful and satisfied by the leadership management and staff who are trying to navigate a challenging mission of supporting us to rise without accidentally hurting us further by reinforcing a self entitled self centered gimme gimme more kind of attitude often found in the homeless persons I have rubbed shoulders with(Thank God for hand sanitizer)

I've been calling this place since the summer! Everytime I call they say they have no beds available. I know when they're lying to me; I'm not stupid. You must need a referall to get into this place! Sometimes they go out of their way to be rude. I think just for the sake of being rude! Horrible way to treat a woman. I'm always nice. I'm disgusted with humanity!

This place is racist & discriminatory! If you need help don't go here they'll leave you broke & if you aren't their people then you get NOTHING! I stayed there 1 night in 2010 & my belongings got stolen & I was told that my kind isn't welcome there!

Hyland House has been around for quite some time now and is first choice facility in Surrey for unfortunate souls who's had it rough threw crisis & the covid pandemic. All I can say is wow... I'v been here for a couple of weeks & it's a very clean well established building with great staff. Options workers are here as well & all staff are fully willing and wanting to give people the knowledge & direction to all the resources and essentials to get unfortunate individuals like myself a second chance at a new start in life.

Didn't like this place they're very strict and treat addicts and homeless like their garbage even though that's what they're there for.

I have been unfortunate to have to experience homelessness....having said that I was given a chance to stay at this shelter and stayed for just over 2weeks. The place is clean well run and the staff for the most part are curtious and demonstrate empathy! I would give the place 5stars but unfortunately was removed due to an abusive client who threatened me! I took the the high road " and reported it to staff but this man followed me and continued to be abusive and I could only take so much so I lost my temper and threatened him back. We were both removed and this person I was having issues with would not leave voluntarily and had to be extracted by police which just puts an exclamation point on the kind of person he is. I feel it was unfair to ban me for 30days but technically I did brake the no tolerance rule regarding disrespecting staff and clients and I do own that! Otherwise I would easily give Hyland House 5 stars and can only hope that in 3weeks they give me another shot! Okay rant over lol!"

They helped me to get where I am now,and they are still helping me to get to where I need to go . I was stuck, and I am thankful for them helping me with a roof over my head, food,and direction and alot more that I needed in my life. They were there to help me when no one else was . I Thank them for everything it's made a huge difference in my future and now. They show you all that our community has to offer. There is so much people have no idea of what Surrey alone has to offer for someone like me . Thankyou to all who have given me the help I so much needed.

I would never have thought i would ever live in a homeless shelter....or say that i really enjoyed one, or anything to that matter..I stayed in Hyland House for 4 months. From October 2010 till January 2011. You get a private room, with a locked door. 3 good meals a day . 3 snacks a day. Free laundry. And many services. They also paid part of my rent for 1 year after i left.Thank you Hyland House
